Was checking out 'Le Manoir de Mortevielle' on You tube earlier , this stood out and looked a pretty neat title , with some cool features within it 'Speech(although annoying after first few sentences, nice to have option to shut it off), real nice sound fx and digitised stuff, graphics really well defined and nice menu system . It's a real shame that my French is not fluent enough to properly enjoy this game .
I wondered is it as good a title as it looks?
It made me wondered how many other titles are out there in other languages which are great offerings.

Maybe we can translate+patch some of those games if we compile a list first to figure out where to start from?

On the spanish side, "La abadia del crimen" is one of these. And not so easy to translate because it uses a cusom packing/dictionnary system for all the text.

Iron Lord was a great adventure game, shame it was never released in the UK  >:(

Not helped by AA reviewing it as well to bump up the interest! It did look an intriguing title.

Excellent game if you don't mind never ending disk swapping. Hated these tortuous disk swaps in Amiga and never got used to them in our beloved CPC :)

The youth of today will never realise the drama of disk swapping. Wasn't it 12 for Monkey Island 2 on the Amiga?

Regarding text adventures, in Spain we had a very high quality company making them, although they only made 6, as far as I remember. I am talking about "Aventuras AD". The games are:

- La Aventura Original
- El Jabato
- La Diosa de Cozumel
- Los Templos Sagrados
- Chichén Itzá
- La Aventura Espacial

and Supervivencia, but Supervivencia (aka El Fifurcio) was the first one and only for Spectrum, sort of a demo.

They produced the rest of the games for most platforms: Spectrum, Amstrad, MSX, Amiga, Atari and PC. There was quite a difference between 8 and 16 bit versions, though. 8 bit games had shorter texts and poorer vectorial graphics. 16 bit platforms enjoyed scanned graphics, longer texts and, in some cases (Chichén Itzá) extended plot as well. The MSX version was always between the 8 and 16 bit productions: 16 bit texts but 8 bit graphics. In my humble opinion, their games are among the best text adventures ever produced for the Amstrad in Spanish and they remain really enjoyable.

The framework used to created their games is called DAAD (Diseñador de Aventuras AD). It is a sort of PAWS on steroids (the author is the same) that can be employed to produce games for many platforms at the same time writing the code just once (more or less). Of course, it is very well adapted to produce games in Spanish. It was supposed to be lost, but it was found not so long ago (2013) and now is free to use. If you know PAWS, the transition to DAAD should not be traumatic but I did not try it myself, so maybe I am wrong  :) .

Wasn't "La Guerra de las Vajillas" also from them or it was made by Dinamic Software before founding Aventuras AD, as "El Quijote"?

Yes, La Guerra de las Vajillas and El Quijote are from Dinamic Software, but not AD. AD joined the party much later and Dinamic was simply publishing their software, as far as I remember :) . La Guerra de las Vajillas and El Quijote are far more primitive than any AD game, you can notice the difference as soon as you start typing commands. In this regard, AD games are still really playable and enjoyable, very advanced for their time.

The two big ones must be -

IRON LORD and LA ABADIA DEL CRIMEN

Some notable others...

Mundial De Futbol - one of the best football games on the CPC
L'Aigle De Retour - one of the few Plus games that use it's pallete. Only in French or Spanish :(
Targhan - a really nice looking game, not so good with gameplay. French and Spanish only.

Lastly...

Mortville Manor - no dump yet of an English version, although it appears there may be an English language version out there! PictureZoom v2.1

I missed it completly, what do you think make it valuable ?
Brain Radioactivity

Indeed, La Abadia del Crimen is one of the most complex CPC productions ever. Moreover, it was entirely programmed by one person (Paco Menéndez) while the graphics were created just by another guy  (Juan Delcán). It is particularly important for Amstrad lovers, since it was completely developed using a couple of borrowed 6128 and employs Mode 1 capabilities extremely well :). Sadly, Paco is no more among us  :( .
