We are planning a retrogamingcozyday some time in the future, where a bunch of mates will show up bringing the machine they grew up with as a kid. I'll be bringing my CPC ofcourse, the girlfriend her C64, and some will bring their Amiga, ZX Spectrum, Nintendo etc etc.

Mainly we'll just be playing the old games, and not much else. And then we thought it could be fun to see the same game (or equivalent) on all the platforms. Some games are made for all platforms. Some are only made for some platforms, but then a similar game with a different title exists on the other platforms.

To find out which games everyone should dig up for that day, I'm asking all participants to mail me a list of the games they feel most nostalgic about on their computer/console. Then it's up to each participant to find those games on that list on their own platform.

I'd like to help the participants by figuring out which games are actually available for their platform, or if a similar game with another title exists.

For starters, I need this help myself though. So I present a list of games sent to me by an Amiga participant. Can anyone here help me identify which games exists for the CPC, and which similar games was made for the CPC with a different name?

For example, I know that the CPC has the games 1942, 1943, Bubble Bobble, etc etc. It doesn't have the Alien Breed games, but maybe "Into the eagles nest" could be used as an alternative in such cases.

Thanks!

Alien Breed... Alien Syndrome maybe?  Although I'd pretend that didn't exist and show Eagles Nest anyway.   :)

Nice suggestion! Didn't know about that one. Sadly, because the title also exists for Amiga (as do Into the Eagles Nest I've learned), then it can't be used as a "similar game with another title", but more like "alternative game in lack of other".

Only other thing like it I can think of is Zap't'balls.

Oh, and you could use MegaBlasters for DynaBlaster.

That'll do!  :)

Yes, that one I did know about, but only just. Haven't even played Megablasters on the CPC yet.

What gives? Isn't that also a CPC+ game?
And what's up with the music? Is that for real?

Steet Fighter II

Wha?  When did this happen?

Can't imagine it would work terribly well surely?  Though saying that I had Street Fighter Alpha on Gameboy and that played surprisingly well so it's not impossible.
Favorite CPC games: Count Duckula 3, Oh Mummy Returns, RoboCop Resurrection, Tankbusters Afterlife

On the youtube comments it's said that the music is from the C64 version of Bad Cat.

The game looks terrible...

The big challenge to make a "street fighter like" game, is the same as making a Mario like.
If you don't understand what is doing the game great, you make a poor clone. (Body Blows, Great Giana Sister)

The Gameboy version is nice because the gameplay is good, not graphics or music. :)
If the game engine don't respect "rules", it's better to abort the project instead of releasing a bullshit.
When it look to be good, you can begin to think GFx and Music to improve it, but you already got 75% of fun without. :D

Which Tetris game for the CPC resembles TwinTris the most?

mr_lou

Alright, attached a PDF with the current list of games we might check out. Can you help filling out some of the empty slots anywhere?

For example, does anyone know of an "Ice Climber" clone for the CPC? Someone apparently made it for the ZX Spectrum.

And is "Jungle Jane" the only Pooyan clone for the CPC?

Is there really no Centipede version for the Nintendo NES?

Suggestion, do a vote for best version and publish the result here after the party
I might use the list sometime too in future :)

Arabian Nights is two different games on the CPC, maybe they payed two programmers for the job and included both versions on the tape?

Not a bad idea. Although, at the moment, I'm mostly after the version that resembles TwinTris the most.
The best Tetris version would also be interesting though.

The only Arabian games I know of are 'Interceptor soft' and maybe 'Aladdins Cave' Arctic.
I can't find any variant of Arabian Nights?

Does the CPC has anything like Crossfire for the C64?

It remembered me a few to Astro Attack, but nothing to do: Crossfire seems more playable and sound is greater :D

I think these games exist on CPC..... just realized that someone else made a list (I didn't read the whole thread) so I modify this because there is no need for twice.

Retro computer girlfriends, how do you even find them? I wouldn't mind if mine was even C64 :)

mr_lou

Thanks Optimus.

In order to show off the CPC, it would be nice to load Dead on Time and Star Sabre. But which games on the other 4 platforms resembles these games?
Which space shooters on Amiga, C64, ZX Spectrum and Nintendo NES reminds you of Dead on Time and Star Sabre?

I have them both on the same original tape, one version on each side. So different that my guess is that they are done by two different people. One game is in mode 1 and the other in mode 0
The games is by Interceptor Software - Tales of the Arabian Nights
