I have them both on the same original tape, one version on each side. So different that my guess is that they are done by two different people. One game is in mode 1 and the other in mode 0
The games is by Interceptor Software - Tales of the Arabian Nights

If you haven't already done so, a CDT should be made for archiving purposes and put up on CPC-Power for the rest of us to check out :)

So I guess whats online there doesn't have both versions? I do not have access to my Amstrad collection at the moment due to space restrictions. Most of it is packed up and out of reach unfortuneately

Thanks Optimus.

In order to show off the CPC, it would be nice to load Dead on Time and Star Sabre. But which games on the other 4 platforms resembles these games?
Which space shooters on Amiga, C64, ZX Spectrum and Nintendo NES reminds you of Dead on Time and Star Sabre?

For Dead on Time, try Mega Apocalypse.

Nice! That'll do! Thanks. :-)
Do you need music for your Amstrad CPC game project?
Take a look at IndieGameMusic.com - that's where I put my tracks.

Well that's fine, you can do it at your own leisure - but specifically re:completeness , there's not a CDT - Disk/Tape versions sometimes differ greatly due to different loader code ingame (see laser squad f.ex - the disk version loads data directly* instead of invoking the usual loading routines) so even if it's not significant, there will be enough difference to warrant a CDT being made.

*not entirely sure, but I do know that a "converted" disk copy of laser squad to cdt will not work due to the way it pulls data (we tried it in irc to our failure).

A week ago, conker_rare wrote in the spanish forum about his mode 0 version of Tales of Arabian Night, and today he has published a CDT of this version in the spanish forum, and of course, in a few days will be appear in the usual places.

Aaargh! I bought a copy of the MODE 0 version of this game a few months ago on eBay but I forgot to upload the CDT to CPC-POWER at the time. Ah well, it looks like you've beaten me to it! ;)

Well, you can beat me and make a nice floppy version ;) I'm too busy with work and studies for the next days, ayysss...

The strange thing is the conker_rare's tape is in mode 0 in both faces and ivarf wrote that his version is mode 0 in one face and mode 1 in the other one. There is a lot of hidden text in both versions that make clear than the mode 0 version was made after the mode 1.

My copy contains the MODE 0 version on both sides of the cassette.

According to Amstrad Action's review of the game in issue 4, the original version was in MODE 1 and 2,000-3,000 copies were sold before Interceptor decided to release a new version in MODE 0, programmed by someone else, as they "weren't 100% happy with the game".

Thanks for clarify the story about the game, Nich :)

WTF with the mode 0 color clash? ???

I know that some games emulate the spectrum screen but... in mode 0? ???

I'm not pretty sure on what version is the best judging the first level...

SyX

Color clash? It's only routine for printing sprites using XOR and it's used in a lot of CPC games, for example, "Billy, El Barriobajero 1", "Classic Axiens", "Zorro", "Exolon", "3 Weeks in Paradise", ... with the difference that those games took more care and have a mainly black background for minimising the FX (FX Emborrachamiento de Colores :P).

McKlain

I played this game a lot, but I can't remember wich version I had. It was a pirate copy.

mmm, maybe i saw this in the past and now my memory is playing tricks with me

Anyway it's curious that they tried  to make a new "best" version and do that, no?

And what's the reason that in one game the main character can go upstairs and in the other only jump through it? it's a big diference in gameplay and i'm not sure that it's the best way in the second version. What's the general consensus in other versions, the character can or cant' go upstairs?  ;D

In the mode 1 version the character can jump to the sea and walk through it like Jesus...

The two versions are very odd don't you think?
