Games that never were!

i know this has been discussed before, and I appologise for digging it up again. But... Many games appeared on other platforms but never made the Cpc, I have only one title that I still play under emulation, and has no close Cpc clone.

I was surprised C64 had Maniac Mansion and Zac McKracken.

I didn't start on a CPC version but I contacted Orlando. He said he wasn't interested in the CPC so didn't want a CPC version made.
So I didn't make it!

I loved loads of games on the BBC. Zalaga, Frak and Repton were just 3 of them.

It had some nice games.

It shouldn't be that much of a surprise since both games and the SCUMM engine started life on the C64...?

(Also, the BBC shooter Fire Track on the CPC would be a lovely thing... =-)

Zalaga is great on C64 too. I've not seen Frak on C64.
Yeah, CPC needs something similar.

Hmmm, next time I am in Barnsley it might be an idea to get the wifes old Electron out of the loft. I wonder if I can get the electron Frak and Zalaga tapes to load

I have a lot of respect for the BBC B , it did have some great games for it, despite it's awful image . Many happy memories going to my mates house and playing his Snapper, Planetoids, Guantlet  Daredevil Dennis,Elite, Monsters, SIM. Blah Blah Blah. Shame it's colour palette was so bloody garish. Like watching Ceefax  . There were so many quality games for it imo. On the other hand I disliked the Electron with a passion . So bloody bland in design .(which also can be said for the Beeb) but at least the Beeb had a bit of umph to it.

It's Repton that ripped off Boulderdash, not the other way round. And for the record Repton utterly sucks. Go and play Boulderdash on the Atari 8 bits (the games native format) to see the difference. Makes Repton look like the cheap badly done clone it is.

Pharaoh's Curse always springs to mind. Granted it was out a year before the CPC, but I remember clicking around on this game on my uncle's Vic 20 for a lot of the summer in 1986, getting my CPC that year and gutted that I could never find it.

Was always surprised nobody bothered with a cloning it even, but I was 10 years old at the time so what did I know?...

The story i read was that it was based on reading a review of Boulder Dash rather than actually playing it, so it's more of an interpretation? =-)

Well it has similarities undeniably , but it's not as if it is trying to be a version of Boulderdash. It has it's own spin on things and is a bit more of a thinking mans version. I like both games personally, and find them equally entertaining.

Oddly enough I have an Electron review coming up soon of a game where I basically say "Repton is crap, play this instead". I'll be awaiting the bricks through the window from Acorn fans when it goes live.

As the CPC was my main machine between 1985 and 1993, I have experience of more games on it than any other system. Hence you see a slightly higher proportion of coverage than other places with multiformat coverage. But I figure it's just getting my own back for rubbish multiformat mags like Games X ignoring the CPC!

I love playing Pushover and CannonFodder on Amiga. If that were created versions on Amstrad that would be great.

Can't see Cannon Fodder working on a standard CPC. Perhaps on the Plus with the hardware scrolling BUT Cannon Fodder really needs a mouse. On systems without a mouse it just feels wrong.

Who said that scroling must be by 1 pixel?
GBA version has no mouse. But I agree with mouse would be better.

Between you and me, its the first decent Elk game I've played. Although it was a little cruel of me to put it side by side with the Atari 8 bit version (the pinnacle of Boulder Dash)

A great vid. thanks for these. It's always a great idea to see how the rest of the 8bit machines performed and have the ability to compare and contrast the games and qualities of each platform.
