Title: games that should be on cpc!!!!
Post by: gooner73 on 17:26, 23 August 12
Hi all

here are some great games that never made it on the cpc, but could easily be done and would probably be better than the other versions released!

they are all titles i would love to be able to play on the cpc, and there are also some great games screaming for a makeover!

these are just personal opinions of my own and do not expect any programmer ( which sadly i am not) to take as a hint! ;)

"fixing" or remaking old games can be hard work. it is often easier to make new ones.

I like all the games you suggested. i don't have time to make conversions of these.

somebody started to make a conversion of clowns and balloons I believe for the bbc micro.

Mr do's wild ride is  'Kong strikes back' on the Amstrad and is pretty good, but I agree,it definitely could do with all these , seeing as they are 8 bit classics and should be well represented on the Amstrad and good versions are well within it's capability, I would hope so anyhow?

Yup, Mr. Do's Wild Ride = Kong Strikes Back.

And Fruity Frank can go for Mr. Do.

not quite the same, and ridiculously hard to get held of on hard format.

kong strikes back-okish conversion.

Attack Of The Mutant Camels would be really nice to have for the CPC, but I can't imagine it beating the Atari version.

Bryce.

Gunsmoke was converted ...

*edit*

Oh I see that list you were talking about existing conversions that need to be remade.
I haven't played this one in a long while but I remember it being 'ok'

There's also a budget game called Cowboy Kidz I remember being similar and decent-ish

I would like to see a decent conversion on the "River Raid".

I agree that many games would be perfect for the CPC.

However, if I had to choose between a CPC conversion of an old well-known game, and a brand new game for the CPC, I'm picking the latter.

i totally agree , but there are some classics that really should be in the library. I am just a big fan of some of the oldies that never made it and should have. :D

I was planning a text adventure version of Monkey Island a LONG time ago... never quite got beyond the planning stage though (like most of my projects).

I think that as the CPC is an 8bit computer it should prove itself in this field with the classics , rather than these over ambitious games that are just so lacking in fun because the humble Amstrad cannot cope. I see no problem that it is not being original by producing the old classics , because these games were fun and really enjoyable to play again and again. I personally want to see the Amstrad to shine with some good fun games with great presentation and music . Bubble Bobble was great and fun ,R-Type, Frogger(although it was Plus),Star Sabre,Sub Hunter all starting to give the Amstrad some Quality enjoyable. playable games!

I've played the Atari 2600 & 7800 versions, the 7800 version has some serious game play to it because your little man will travel slower as he is pushing through the earth. Even the 2600 version doesn't account for that and he just goes travels at the same pace all the time.  :o

Angry Birds - looks simple, but would the physics of it all be a bit too much for the Z80? Guess the destruction of the blocks etc could be simplified maybe

Trying to control that game using stick or keys would be utter torture as well. :S

Well you only need up,down and fire !

I suspect the physics of falling blocks would be quite a tough task for the Z80, unfortunately.

However I propose "Angry Bird Out" - same firing mechanism, but the structures are actually blocks a la Breakout (fixed position blocks)/Tetris (blocks that fall when there is a space beneath them) that you have to hit and destroy.

Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge is right here so no need to remake it  ;)

Actually looks quite like the Amiga 500 version too. But im not surpriced if you didnt know as i didnt notice it either untill 20 years later. Actually didnt notice The Duel, Lemmings, Hostages, Oriental Games and Sim City either. Of cause most of them are 128kb or 6128 only games so i may have mentally ignored them or something.

Angry Birds: isnt using a new game idea as "flying rock in gravity" has been used since forever really. I recall i really wanted a watch with a "tank shooting at castle" game in it sometime back in the late 70'. The mechanics must have been used in 100s of games since then. Perhaps not in the exact same way .. but the mechanism is also so "simple" that it usually had to be combined with other things as alone its hard to sell. Like most sports games has at least 1 gravity event like ski-jumping. Gotta like the wacky ones like the "pie launching & catching" or the "catch the ball off the camel" mini games in Its a Knockout.

As mentioned, there must be lots of "angry tank" games out there. Most notable i remember the Worms series and the old amiga pd game Scortched Earth. The falling tiles/marble you can argue if it has been seen before in a gravity shooting game. A part from every pinball game ever made, surely there has to be a couple of "pinball spring shoots ball in a round of 3D bowling"-games out there.

We really should have one of these games on the Amstrad !!!

'You Have to win the game!'

You Have To Win The Game playthru on C64 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTo94y2sMXI#ws)

And

'VVVVVV'
VVVVVV on the Commodore 64 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAw0mII__WI#ws)

They look great and look well within capabilities of the Amstrad!?

I hope we see something of this nature on the Amstrad....

But we have it's ancient relative Turbo Esprit!!

Well.... I'm just curious.... if someone would start to work on such a game on a professional level, would it be enough to get 500 Euros together, to get the bills payd... since young folks in the EU got no jobs anylonger, it may be an alternative  ;)

VVVVVV  is bloody brilliant. Bought it on PC/MAC a year or two ago

I didn't like  VVVVVV vvvvvvvvery much, it was ok, but the conversion looks great. YHTWTG, however, is brilliant!

And there are probably examples of games which can work on a CPC. Flynn did a great job on H.E.R.O for example and it works, though the 2600 version presents some difficult rooms to get through which requires pinpoint accuracy on the joypad, it might be possible to have that on the CPC, though I'm not totally sure.  :'(

I'm just saying that making games based on what the Amstrad is good at, rather than what should be on an Amstrad maybe an suitable approach. You could make a game based on another game though, though it might have it's own twist which makes it work on an Amstrad.

Flynn's H.E.R.O. port was really, really sleek. I just wanted to say that :)

Pity he dropped out of CPC development...

Oh yes! However the most beautiful version I ever saw runs on CBS colecovision. (I had that before the CPC, about 1984).

From memory I did enjoy it - used to get freaked out when I was 8 years old being chased around by the green psychotic monster, especially when every time the Acorn made a sound the game would momentarily pause so I would poo myself a little more especially if said monster was close to me  :D I don't think it was as good as the original though. The one I never liked too much was Around The World in 40 Screens...
