With the CPCpower's staff (Kukulcan) we started to set the definitive and complete list of the games that take into account that your CPC is 128K RAM (or even more...)

Needless to say such list may be a bit difficult to fill so every help are needed.

Here are the topics (in French mostly) and pages...

CPCpower article :
http://www.cpc-power.com/cpcarchives/index.php?page=articles&num=151

CPCrulez topic :
http://cpcrulez.fr/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4458&p=14254#p14254

Thx for your help fellow amstradists...

Bonus : telling what extra feature are added...

PS : I put this topic in "Games" but every kind of Softwares (even serious ones) are to be featured too.

Needless to say, when the list is to be "completed" we may add a new category in the CPCwiki...

Trantor loads digitalized voice with 128k

It loads the sample also with 64k... (Or did I miss something? Perhaps only the cracked one?)

Robocop has digital voice for disk 128Ko version

-Prohibition : there's a 464/664 disk version and a 6128 disk version   (the boss office quick shot level and the picture that show the hero   hiding behind a wall are missing in the 64ko version)

-Captain Blood: the 6128 version contain more character and more Special effects during hyperspace than 464 version.

  hope that helps.

ukmarkh

Zombi 128k version... more detailed graphics and errie music.

ssg

Vera Cruz - actually required 128k and wouldn't run on 64k.

Of course this would be just too cool to tell What are the extra features.

The most common must be a single loading...
Extra sounds somethimes... (mostly sampled sounds ?)

But actual extra graphics or gameplay must be not that common.

Of course "Serious" softwares are more prone to use a 6128.

3D construction Kit per exemple.

If you ask for help here... then you should at least integrate the provided informations. (All the above mentioned prods are still missing).
Maybe the French don't like Thundercats, maybe they prefer Lightningfrogs  :P

sigh

There's some really strange ones there that I don't understand where the extra 64k would be used. For instance: Emlyn Hughes International Soccer and tennis cup. Would this be extra sounds effects?

I remember Shinobi having music and sound effects on the 128k as it was silent on 64k. I remember not having my memory expansion at the time and playing the cover disk demo.
Gryzor, renegade, target renegade - single loading. Gryzor also had music with 128k. I think operation wulf and operation thunderbolt may have had single loading, but I cant remember.

ssg

The Untouchables also had no music on 64k.

Cholo

The amstrad action demo of Shinobi is a really good one to test for extra ram is detected as it properly display a message about using the extra 64k for music/sample if it find it.

Amstrad Action did have couple of harmless woopsies. One of the one i recall was the promise of "next covertape  has Hero Quest demo it, make sure to check the cool music in this one"-ish and when the tape came there was no music as it was 128k dependant.

Operation Wolf (tape) does indeed load everything if you have more memory.

Gryzor does indeed load everything and give you the option of music.

Dragon Ninja loads all too in one go and adds that sample too.

If i recall right then Operation Thunderbolt (tape) loads the whole of side one (game and a lot of extra lvls) if you have the extra ram.

Im pretty sure Rainbow Islands does something close to Operation Thunderbolt but i really need to check that one first (so it isnt just my imagination).

Ok guys...

kukulcan did his list...

http://www.cpc-power.com/cpcarchives/index.php?page=articles&num=151
(in french)

please check up if something is missing... this list need to be translated perhaps, but i have no time for this ATM...

I will create the subcategories in the CPCwiki and perhaps an article too...

For the moment those are the sofwares who use the extra RAM, not exclusively 6128 softs
(some of those are actually exclusive  but not sorted yet...)

Games : 235

Serious softwares (applications) : 74

Compilations (featuring said games...) : 28

I think some of the game should be put into a specific category as they are educationnal softwares (ADI per exemple)

Post edition :

ok I did a stub of the Category:Extended RAM Softwares and Extended RAM Softwares pages.

This may need a more proper naming and is prone to change according to a debate.

Feel frree to talk about it and put the proper links into existing pages (games, softwares and so on...)

THX..

thats an amazing 128k list from Hermol :)

great topic this one interesting to find out about 128k software.

other than one go loading and extra loading music or speech did the 128k ever get fully used ?  was it really worthwhile or just another marketing ploy example "look my computer has 128k and yours doesnt"

whatever happened to Hermol ?  is he still making demos? is he still making cpc youtube vids ?  has he made any progress on the cpc zelda project i read about ages ago ?

am wondering what this is ? what does it do ?  and how to use it / implement it ?

use instruction "ld bc,&7FC?:out (c),c" in its code.

Well well well... having a 6128 enable to play the delightfull Pirates! game... per exemple...
Or B.A.T ?

Or to play the superbe RickDangerous 128+ (provided you also have a PLUS ...with 128K RAM) or even the soon to come R-Type 128...
Or Orion Prime.

But yeah perhaps too few games actually used it as it should be used (a true 6128 game... with no such silly cvoncept as Tape or 64K only...)

Many application though...

But the main problem is that the extra RAM was more used to get a single loading than to actually add extra features (to be verified)...
Which is great for tape users...
But useless for Disk users who could get fast multiloadings...

To me it would have been better to more differenciate the Tape version and Disk version, halas the 664 actually did exist... and this screwed all this.

So now the debate :

should I put subcategories such as : 128K games, 128K applications... and so on...

or should we simply put all into the generic 128K software... (after all softwares are already into Games or applications categories...)

???

"A Tribute..." is not released yet, if I'm not mistaken, and as such it does not belong in such a list. Isn't it still in development? If we were to add everything that *would* have appeared and *would* have needed 128k... no way.

Robocop: the sample, of course, was "Protect the public trust -Protect the innocent - Uphold the law" (the 4th directive was classified).

Trantor had the first voic sample I had ever heard on my trusty 464.

@Macdeath: thanks for the hard work mate... I think two categories are enough: games and apps. The titles could be games/apps that use more than 64k and then in the list we could state if 128k was the minimum or a bonus.

Also bear in mind that the categories need renaming. I may be "logiciels" in French but in english it's just "software", not "softwares"...

MiguelSky
