You can actually use N,S,W and E for Fore, AFT, Port and Starboard...

:D
Oh I know, but the descriptions don't change...

Is there a limit of moves to end the game?

I was going back and forth, playing on RVM and saving a snapshot of my progress. So far so good.

Then as I reached 402 moves, the game just resets and starts again.

Is it a thing of the game or is it RVM?

And, can someone tell me how to open the tube in the regeneration chamber? Please?

@robcfg : I can't reproduce this here unfortunately. The game has been played through on my 6128 (real hardware) without any issues. The game doesn't stop after 402 moves for me. Are you playing this on real hardware or via emulation, I guess emulation since you were referring to a snapshot? I would ALWAYS recommend to use the built-in SAVE and RESTORE feature instead. It writes a file onto the disk so you are always able to load the file, no matter what happens. The function is very convenient. Can you remember what you did when the game restarted? The incrementation to move 402 must have been triggered by something you did. What did you do to reach move 402?

Regarding the tube: there's a reference card bundled with the game which teaches you the basic words that may trigger something. The verb you need to apply here is referenced as an often used verb in the game. Have you tried touching the tube?

Even though I have no problem with text-only games, this is an adventure that felt very empty to me, so I lost interest very quickly. The navigation is terrible, as well. This is not even a patch on the very good Curse of Rabenstein, by the same author.

I might give the director's cut of Hibernated a (second?) chance, though.

@manossg I am a bit confused by the fact that you flag H1DC as "empty". The game is filled with tons of narrative content, objects and references in the descriptions to interact. Sounds more like text-only interactive fiction games are not your cup of tea? Have you referred to the bundled card how to play the game?

Regarding navigation: in space, there are no cardinal directions. For realism, I adopted ship directions, and I am not the first human being to do so, every Infocom game in space does the same, e.g. Stationfall or Planetfall. You either love or hate Infocom style games. If you don't like them, then H1 is nothing for you, though I tried to make it more accessible.

Thanks for liking Rabenstein. It's a completely different concept and I may return to it one day, though I still have sleepless nights from creating all those graphics for all the different machines.

@8bit_era

(I am talking about hibernated, not the DC. I played the DC for 10 minuted and I disliked it even more, sorry. I think the original game at least had a normal navigation system)
It might have content later on, but navigating the initial locations, I found the descriptions to be spartan and uninspired, sorry, so I lost interest and gave up. I am a huge adventure game fan, although I have mixed feelings towards text adventures, because of unfriendly parsers and unfair gameplay (generally, so Infocom is guilty of all these sins).

Rabenstein did almost everything right and I loved playing it and I couldn't stop until the end. The graphics (especially the CPC version) were a great bonus. In fact, I was eager to play Hibernated exactly because I enjoyed Rabenstein so much, but ended up being disappointed.

Sorry for being blunt, but this is an honest opinion from a fan of Rabenstein.
Please, see my review of Rabenstein, where I elaborate on these points (although I had not played Hibernated at that point).

@manossg Got you. Sorry, then I misunderstood your post, which I read as a reference to the Director's Cut. Well, Hibernated was my first game. Even though it was very successful and won many awards, including the Crash Smash, I felt it could be done much better. You see my progression in Rabenstein, both game design wise and from a narrative point of view. Going back to Hibernated felt like the right thing to do before I was able to move forward again. One reason is that even the sequel (still in development) moved too far away in terms of playability compared to the classic H1.

I think you'll going to like the Director's Cut. And thank you for your support!

No problem, mate, I am sorry for sounding a bit blunt and I will try to give DC another chance!

I am really looking forward to your next works, please let me know if I can be of any help!

Well, sure. How much KB would it be to be translated?

It's not only about translation of the library, the whole codebase would need to be altered and debugged as well. Also, nearly none of the classic Z-Machine interpreters knows anything about Umlauts, so it would result in games with workarounds, e.g. ue for ü. Feel free to create an official translation of the PunyInform library if you like to, but it would be a massive and very tedious job, which I am not able to do nor maintain. https://github.com/johanberntsson/PunyInform
