I've been thinking about type-in listings and whether anyone who contributed them went on to have flourishing careers in the games industry.

I know Philip and Andrew Oliver had a listing publishing in C&VG and David Perry began his career writing code for books.

Does anyone else spring to mind?

Interesting question indeed, but why limit it to the games industry? I'm pretty sure tons of people went on to become successful developers in other areas.

...then again I realise that "so-and-so went on to be lead producer for MacSheets Pro 2002" is not as interesting :D

Different platforms, mostly C64 and Amiga, but unfortunately never Amstrad afaik:

Chris Huelsbeck, probably most famous for the Turrican soundtrack, went on to become a famous and professional games musician.

All started with a music contest in the German magazine "64er"

Indeed....

So, I had a type-in in 1988 and ended up as a Software developer for some time. Well... BOOOOOORIIIING

I'm racking my brains thinking about an Amstrad type-in listing that was so big it ran across several magazine issues. But which mag? Was there once a big type-in in Amstrad Cent Pour Cent?

I don't know where you hail from, but I think there once was a giant CAD program for CP/M which spanned more than 1 issues of the german mag "Happy Computer" IIRC. I also believe it was written in Pascal, so the poor guys who actually typed it in had to copy the complete Pascal runtime as hex-codes :D It was MASSIVE.

EGS aka Elmar Krieger published some type-ins in your typical german CPC mags around the edge of the 80s to 90s. And he wrote some actual games published by some actual publishers.

And even myself, I published some listings and might start a flourishing career in the gaming industry if all of you and their dogs bought my mobile game :D

Maybe you're thinking of Axys: The Last Battle? It was published over five issues of CPC infos, and I even thought it was worthy of its own CPCWiki article. :)

CPC Infos specialised in publishing very long listings spanning more than one issue.

WOW - this is insanse for a type-in... especially since this included an intro screen, a title screen and title music. Probably already 20% of the data statements.

But definitely the best type-in I have ever seen.

That was it!!! Thanks so much! Thought I was losing my mind for a mo.

We should include the listing in the article probably... will try to extract it (am at work) later on :)
