Hmm, Mighty Renegade huh?

A little distracting that Chun Li has two thumbs on one hand.

Backgrounds (like the rest of the gfx) are quite beautiful. But they make the character details hard to perceive. I think there's no cure for that with classic CPC's limited palette. It would be cool though if they implement a setting to disable bg images. What do you think?

What exactly has been the issue in the last few days with the name of this?  I've seen vague Facebook references.  Is it a copyright thing?

Bought it. And.. it's awesome! Can't wait to play it on real hardware, with a CRT.

Congratulations GGP for (finally) releasing the game !!!

Just on time for XMAS. 8)

Few observations:
  • It works well on my setup (UniDOS + Albiero), and I really appreciate the inclusion of files for mass storage, nice touch
  • Audio, graphics, programming: it's all good and relevant. It feels like we are playing a Street Fighter game!
  • Nice to see GX4000's controller Button 2 well supported (too rare for Amstrad games)
  • Maybe a bit too on the dark side for the graphics (almost as if the game takes place at night)
  • The control sequence to trigger hadoken (the fireball) seems to be a bit too complex, only 1 time it worked for me. Maybe trying to handle the diagonal is the issue. Would a simpler sequence like "DOWN - RIGHT - BUTTON 1" work better?
Would you recommend using a different controller? (I'm currently using the GX-4000 one, but it might not be the best option).

Overall, it's a fantastic surprise, and I can't wait to spend more time playing the game!

Thanks again GGP!!!!

My current project is Sonic GX, a remake of Sonic the Hedgehog for the awesome Amstrad GX-4000 game console!

Just bought it and I confirm this is AWESOME.
Thanks for all your job.

If you look at the downloads there is a file called "MSF Ulifac_M4_Stockage de masse.zip", there are all the loose files,
Regarding the joystick, the best recommended one for me, and the one I have used, would be this one:

Gryzor

Tried with RVM and CPCEC - the intro screen shows garbled noise while music is playing?

Bought it last night, no time to play it though, probably tomorrow. What is the best way to play it? I have a ULIifAC and I see there's an archive for mass storage but not sure how to play it through it.

Unzip all those files together into a folder, then put that folder into the ULIFAC with a USB pendrive, and run it from there.

The game is nice. Forgot about the different joystick layout on the CPC. Have a custom made joystick attacked to CPC with 'normal' 2-button layout but I will convert it to CPC layout. Will need some serious mod but at least, I will have a CPC custom joystick.

Egg Master

The game looks like a yie ar kung-fu in the Street Fighter universe.
A good idea to do this way. But, the graphics seem strange to me.

This is "Chibi" style. While it looks cute on one hand, it actually serves another purpose. It helps the developer to create a game with small sprites instead of large ones that CPC normally can't handle. It's a clever decision with beautiful outcome.

Sorry, I'm not talking about the characters style, as I said, it's more "Yie ar Kung-fu", I like the idea.
But, the background and menu frames seem "confusing" to me, compared to usual CPC games. No?
I feel like it makes the action not very readable. Anyway, a lot of efforts was put into this game. :)

@dodogildo OK, so we thought the same. :D

May be the gradients on the background just can be more classic, using horizontal strips and lines.

I concur. There is simply too much dithering on the backgrounds IMHO. There is a trend, lately, to use dithering in mode 0 which I personally dislike. Small touches of dithering can look nice, like the sky in Vespertino. But if it is overused, it becomes harmful.
You won't see any dithering in Renegade, Gryzor, Get Dexter, Raffles, Defender of the Crown, etc...
I guess it's a matter of taste though, like cheese on a pizza...

it's interesting that nobody complained yet that it is the first game, to my knowledge, that requires 512KB RAM extentions in order to run....

in the past we had lots of hot controversy surrounding this topic!!

but dont get me wrong.. this game rocks  :)

Well done GGP!!!

May be, like you, people own a CPC with 512K RAM (or an emulator) and are happy to play a game using it.

I think it's awesome that finally the available memory gets used. 512k are widely available and with the ULIFAC and the DDI5/6 even a 464 owner has easy access to fast DSK image loading and 512K of RAM.

Btw: does it require 512K in total or 64+512K?

I think it has helped a lot that at least 512KB memory has been put with a loading device (e.g. DDI-5, Ulifac, m4 etc) that it's now normal.

I think it is ok for developers to choose to target 64KB, 128KB or more as they wish (sometimes more memory can equal larger game which can equal longer development times, but also more memory also equals more optimisation possibilities, no loading times) but it is great to have this amount available so it doesn't hold back larger developments.

Well it's also not 1986 anymore either, and RAM expansions are easier and less expensive to come by. As a result, it's easier to program games that aren't strictly limited to 64/128kb.

And even back in the day, very few companies even bothered catered for the 128k anyway.  ;)
Currently playing on: 2xCPC464, 1xCPC6128, 1x464Plus, 1x6128Plus, 2xGX4000. M4 board, ZMem 1MB and still forever playing Bruce Lee.
No cheats, snapshots or emulation. I play my games as they're intended to be played. What about you?
