Hawk Storm by Player's anyone familiar with this game?

I have just taken a look at this little game and it doesn't seem too bad, I have not got very far in it though and I am unable to work out how to progress. I am missing something very obvious I am sure. If anyone is familiar with this game , or is able to explain how to get past a certain point , it would be appreciated!


I will try and explain the position where I am trying to get past (Imagination's at the ready!):-
It is at the point where there are 2 blue decorative bars.1 at the top half of the screen and 1 at the bottom.
They are separated by a little platform, with a gargoyle spewing fire.
On the platform at the  top is a power up orb(which you seem unable to collect)
Just prior to this is a larva pit with a lift hovering up and down above it.


Embarrassingly it is  virtually at the start of the game , so you do not need to progress far to come across this point.
Help would be gratefully received!!?

It's not those barriers bud , I have blasted thru those ones, and presumed you had to do it to these one's too and I have blasted them with must be 70 odd bullets. But no reaction, even with the higher grade gun?

Sure, you need to go at the teletransporter,  go back a few screens to the left and you will see in the floor two blue columns , with a red colum in the middle, put the player there and press joy down
