Darn I'm starting to get a bit stumped now with it!  :(

Can anyone set up a helpline number?  ;D :D

Oh really? Sweet!  ;D

Well ok ... I'll ask for some hints below (no need for a solution) of where I'm stuck, I'll put it in white text to hide so it wont reveal spoilers!

Begin --1

) The appointment computer on the first level outside the lift ... it's been hacked and needs just a 'login ID' ... I've tried every crew ID I've recorded down from the PDA but no joy ... I feel like I should have solved this one by now :(

2) The monster in the garden. I have the cell charged from throwing it in the swimming pool, I've even sneaked and got flash grenades from level 6 before the radiation gets me ... I shoot the lamp above his head which lands on him, throw the cell then shoot it ... what next? I've tried every different combination and every item I have left that could do anything (gun, crowbar, flash grenade etc even the metal cable but no idea what that's for yet!) I presume I need to get to the box at the end of the room, open and get/use contents maybe I don't need to kill him but he still gets me every time! Help!

-- End

:D Putting it in white text isn't really a good idea, I use the ModernDark64 skin on the Forum (which has a dark brown background) so the white text is highlighted :D

But I haven't started Orion Prime yet and by the time I do, I'll have forgotten the tips anyway (if I even get that far).

Maybe you should just PM the questions and tips, so as not to spoil it for others?

Bryce.

good point.

Do we have a "spoilers" tag? worldofspectrum has it and it does a great job of hiding info like this and I am sure it would work with different skins.

OK so the login is someones name? If so when you have a name listed like RUSSEL J,D. what do you do about punctuation? I'm sure I've got all the logs I can get to, examined every room and corpse over and over ... perhaps a hint about which floor and room this log is in ...

Monster ... I only have the pistol but it has the full clip, I take it I need a heavier gun?

For the login use only the surname, not initials.
For the monster, use all the weapons that let you continue (no crowbar...). The gun is the one to be used to finish him.

Ack! How annoying and simple. It seems that the computer may not be needed for anything in the game apart from some useful info which you'll piece together anyway. But we'll see, you never know!

As for the monster .... GRRR ... I thought I tried that. When you tried so many combinations over and over it appears I may have missed one. I'm sure I tried the gun on him at least once after the lamp then battery, but it appears you have to do grenade / lamp / batter / gun - job done.

Anyway I'm progressing now but getting frustrated with the robot ID.

I have 2 relevant PDA emails, one moaning about the ids being wrong - new standardisation and last 4 digits for the company. The next one saying it was the company messing up and quoting 3 digits for Kamiyoshi - "815". I've tried all the robot ID's listed replacing with 815 at the end, then as its supposed to be 4 digits replacing the 4th from last for every one from 0 to 9 eg 33DD0815, 33DD1815, 33DD2815, etc just in case but no joy. Arm aches for trying them all again and frustration creeping in again! Am I missing an important PDA email/log? Am I missing something obvious? :( Cheers![/spoiler]

Maybe I'm not as good as I thought I was, progressing rather neatly up to this point now coming stuck. Perhaps I'm not that cut out for adventure games, hey ho. I seem to be the only one asking for hints, rather embarrassingly! Anyone else progressing well with this game? Anyone completed it yet?

Anyway, maybe some more subtle hints I could do with ...

[spoiler]The hole in the reactor the robot can't pass ... I thought maybe the metal cable i have could be tied to the 'lamp' that's hanging to swing across Indiana Jones style! But can't give anything to the robot
The debris blocking the officers quaters ... plus anything I am missing in the games room which seems to be next to the officers quarters? Apart from the telephone needing a phone number and the arcade machine which you can play on! (any point to the latter or just for fun? Got the high score on all 3 levels just in case)

As i am french, i have had much more time to complete the game. It took me quite a lot of time too and got stucked a few time. So nothing unusual here. It's quite a hard game.

For your questions :

What a great game this is  :) Apart from the sheer size and technicalities involved, the story, graphics and eery music have drawn me in today, been messing around for about 5hrs now and the thing that does it for me is the wonderfully dark humour in a lot of the descriptions.

Anyways, I need a bit of advice from people who have already been where I am and can give me a hint or two, I'm not a seasoned adventure gamer by any means. My scenario is in the spoiler for those that are interested.

Spoiler: ShowHide
In the security room on level 5, the room to the right as you come out the lift.

I've been able to record each movie idividualy and watch each on the screen on level 4, but what is option 1? I assume the text on the " - Security Service - " screen is meant to be distorted to add authenticity, I know option 2 is record video & 3 is quit. But what does option 1 do?

I've pressed it but it gives another distorted message.

On a small side note, has anyone had any disc swapping issues on the 3" disc versions in emulators. This is discounting WinAPE, I'm using the 3.5" on that. Reason I ask is I tried it on AmesDS out of curiosity and it looked realy good in the first room, with screen mode set to auto. It just looks good I think on the small screen, and the layout and writing is very clear. But when I try to leave the room it asks for side 3 which is already in. Then it just can't recognise the disc  :( I also found this with CPCE 1.92.

Thanks a lot for your comments.
As for the technical issue, some emulators don't like the way I handle FDC, so simply can't load any file once the music starts. I think the latest CPE version can handle this, as well of course as Winape (with "Fast Disc Emulation" option unchecked).
As for the hint :
Spoiler: ShowHide
The first option is something like "Visualize screen", and it doesn't work. Move along :).
Title: Re: Orion Prime Support (was: Orion Prime : ordering has started !)

I do get a few times prompts to enter the same disk that is already in the drive on a real Amstrad, although this is a 6128+ (3" version) ... so maybe the fast load is not as optimised or designed for Plus machines that a normal CPC.

It's not a big gripe at all, however the one that does get annoying is on side 1 first loading the game ... I seem to always get 'bad data' error message before loading the intro, I have to switch off, push the disc in and out a few times and it will load eventually. I've not had any other problem with other games I own with the disc drive, last year I cleaned the drive and put new belts on etc. Not sure why this is, could be just a bad floppy.
Title: Re: Orion Prime Support (was: Orion Prime : ordering has started !)
Post by: Targhan on 14:57, 24 July 10
Having a "please insert side x" or "bad data" error is clearly a sign of a not-so-good floppy. Remember that 3" discs are always very old...

Thanks's alot for your reply Targhan.

I'm now confused by one part and for all my trying I'm not seeing the solution. 99% chance it's right in front of me and I don't see it. Situation in the spoiler below and any hints more than welcome  :)

Spoiler: ShowHide
It concerns the robot under repair in the maintenance room in level 2.

I've worked out the correct ID and uploaded the firmware and run the Status report and this confirms the firmware "functions correctly with the robot under repair". All well and good, but the next part of the report says

"Mechanical test: Failed

The robot cannot make use of it's motor facilities in it's current condition.  Cause: Demodulator not integrated (item code 147812)"

I go to the StoreRoom Manager v11.5 computer and it says "ERROR: Database corrupted. Unable to retrieve list of available items" I put the 147812 but isn't recognised anyway.

I also have the remote control in my inventory but it says it doesn't recognise any robots it can control.

I might be wrong completely but remember the 147812 was logged as Fraud or something?? But I don't have a log to back that up so I might be dreaming.

As always subtle hints appreciated, but no major spoilers please  ;)

Yes, subtlety lol If I understand Grim correctly then this is going to get a bit more gory  :o

Freyer is the techie that never returned the Demodulator, according to a log he locked himself down in the secondry pump room. This is the door that requires a retinal scan to open. There's a corpse missing half it's face so I need to find the missing eyeball to open the door and find Freyer, no guessing in what condition thanks to Grims hint.

I've double checked each corridor down in the lowest level then double checked every other corpse on levels 0,1,2,4 &5 and nobodies got an extra eyeball on or around them. Guess I'll have to keep an eye out lol

Hi Remax, thanks for your help here however I'm still stuck...

Phone number - I don't think I have the first part of it yet, or seem to have anything related to the end of it ... perhaps I haven't gotten far enough for this yet? I've gone through the PDA entries I have but can find nothing obvious relating to this.

This is where I am at -

Have woken up Helena, who's run off and says she will contact me - I presume this must be via the telephone
Which I guess at some point will give me access to level 3 labs...?
Robot cannot cross the hole in the reactor
Have opened JD Russel's computer in the bedroom ... but says without knowing what to search for is useless

Sorry Targhan, I'm still stuck...  :( :-[

Spoiler: ShowHide

I've gone through everything again on the first floor but can't find anything - I think the only thing of relevance from what's been mentioned above is the computer by the lift on the 1st floor which is supposed to store crew appointments and other info, but all it gives me of any use is a screen with permanent crew number  (281 - so I guess this is relevant), departure date, state of the vessel which floors are sealed and the names of the levels. Other than that I've gone through all the PDA's I've picked up and can't find any numbers that could be relevant, only a log that talks of the arrival of Tsutomu but has nothing else.

To be honest I have no clue who I'm meant to be calling ... Tsutomu, Helena ... but know nothing of the part I should already have?

From whats been talked about I would hazard a guess that the 8 digit phone number would be something like <laboratory_phone_extension>-0-0-<crew number> eg 32800282 ?

I think I may just need to admit defeat here and ask for where I can get the solution directly, unless I've missed picking something up somewhere as there appears to be little clue or suggestion of a phone number from anything I've found :(

Sorry!

Well I figured that it would be Helena I need to call on the phone seeing as shes a communications expert and would contact me, and I had just rescued her.

OK well I may be on the wrong tracks before anyway with the hacker but on a log I got it talks about a dude playing the fruit machines and the hacker contacting him after a while, ages back I used the Hacker Boy on the fruit machines both of them and sat there using them over and over but nothing happened.
I've just tried for the last 20 mins just 'using' the fruit machines over and over again ... but still nothing.
Tried using the hacker boy and every other object in my inventory on them both too.
Is this where the hacker contacts you? If so what am I doing wrong? :( Man I suck.

Thanks Targhan, except I've already hacked it twice (even though theres 2 fruit machines shown ... the game only counts it as one right?) and I sit there 'using' the machine ... I get some wins in a row, but nothing happens. I must have won about 5 or 6 times in a row sometimes. The occasional 'you lost' too. I must have sat there again for another 10 mins just click 'use' every few seconds ... along with earlier and when I first encountered them after reading that log!..... im getting really annoyed now!! LOL
If I try and use the hacker boy again it just gives a message that there's no use doing that anymore. I hope this isn't a bug in my version.

!!!!

Spoiler: ShowHide

Oh f****** hell ... it was in the personal folder.
I'd never used or checked that since the very first 'welcome to your PDA' message ... grrrr sorry about all that.

Well I've now progressed rapidly, solved all the hackers quest, repaired my vessel after redirecting all the energy (and also managed to kill 5 billion people goofing about  :P ) and now just need to shut down the reactor flow.

So what's left is I have the 3 digits of the 9 digit code needed from the corpse in the reactor, the very strange story from the safe in the commanders bedroom (wtf is this?) but now wondering where else to go on this presumably last quest.

Level 3 labs are still sealed (do you ever get to go there?), 5 of the 6 lockers (with tight security) are still locked, he doesn't know what the case is for on level1 near to the sub-level entrance, I have that strange story in the logs, refuses to dive in the swimming pool with electricity off not knowing what lurks beneath, refuses to use the other computer on level6 outside the flow chambers... hmm that's about it really.

Subtle hints?

Cheers!

God knows how many YouTube vids and parts it will take! lol

Yeah, but, although a longplay will be really cool, it's not nearly as useful as a walkthrough or a hint system...

I suppose I could write one, I went all nerdy and made maps, diagrams and notes whilst playing ... suppose I could translate this into something.

Perhaps a map based one could be quite nice ... then it doesn't have to have a complete solution or walkthrough but like ... locations of stuff and hints to go with them

Hi Targhan (and anyone else) just in case you missed it on the previous page - posted another spoiler/hint thing :)

I won't do any walkthrough or publish it especially if you've got one and until I get a green light - even for a map, if I post a YouTube video it wont be I think for many weeks at least anyway with very clear warning spoilers are involved (well its a longplay - duh!)

Targhan is right to request that a walkthrough be not published yet...

...though I'm stuck early in the game (can't go up or down the ladders, can't use the computer in the Recharger room, can't insert anything behind the plant etc). Is it a case of finding more stuff with pixel-level precision or am I missing something?

However, I just player it for about 40 minutes and I thoroughly enjoyed it...

No, all the remaining numbers (6 of them) are here, you should be able to get to the reactor.

I've made it up to level 2 and wandered about a bit, but there doesn't seem to be anywhere useful to go. There is a sealed door which I tried to open with the crowbar but no luck. The lifts won't take me any further and there is a broken robot, but i don't have any of the bits to fix it (not that I'd know what to do with it if I did!) I've even tried pixel hunting all over the screens to see if there is something I've missed, but no joy.

Yay mate!!! Is the ending any good? :)

Ahh, sorry I'm late replying to this! Yes the ending is good, the whole game has been amazing from start to finish! I think most certain in the top 10 best games ever for the Amstrad EASILY ... in my opinion anyway! I do have some 'wishes' for the game, but really given the quality of product it would only be considered irrelevant and pointless nitpicking - I'm really looking forward to a sequel but everyone involved must be exhausted from the whole project!!

re the ending - I'll put in Spoiler tags just in case although there isn't much actual spoiler material I'll write... but also some questions for Targhan in another spoiler tag -

Spoiler: ShowHide
The ending is probably the best ending to an Amstrad game ever!!!! However unless I've not fully completed the game as there's apparently 3 endings (I'll come onto this shortly) I would say that compared to the amazing and long intro it's a little short (ignoring the long text and credits scroller) and a bit disappointing - BUT that's only in comparison to the amazing opening. So don't take that the wrong way!!

Question for Targhan / game developers regarding different endings, possible missed sections....
(DOES CONTAIN SPOILERS)

Spoiler: ShowHide
So I've seen 2 endings ... one escaping before setting the reactor to blow up (and killing billions teehee!) and a short ending after doing that ie - 2 screens, one of the ship leaving Orion Prime and then the one of it sort of exploding with the music. I've been playing the 3" disc version. I've read somewhere that the ending is longer on the 3.5" version is that correct? Am I really missing much?

Regarding the 3rd ending which I haven't seen, can you give some pointers on how to trigger this?

I'm wondering if it's linked to saving Helena? Obviously I woke her up earlier with the smoke grenade and off she went presumably into the 3 level labs....
Perhaps she escapes with you, and you have sex with her in zero gravity like in Moonraker or something! haha!!
Do you ever get to go to the labs?? Lift door is still locked ... a whole new possible section I'm missing out on or not??
Anything else?

On the 3.5" disc version, the third ending contains an additional full-screen image with a digitised tune to accompany it. There wasn't enough room to include it on the 3" disc version.

Not easily. Though the content is the same, the sector names are different. So copying several sectors from one coy to another of a different format will give a copy error. You could however use Discology to copy/paste the savegame sectors, but it's a boring process. Tell me if you're interested, so that I give you the sectors you need to copy (I need to remember what they are too :).

Hi all,

Orion Prime has now an improved website :
http://www.orion.cpcscene.com

You will find new topics, like Hints for desperate players, and Goodies, in which you'll be able to download the whole soundtrack of the game in OGG format (Yes ! Even the song still not uploaded to the CPC Radio !).

We may come for more if people requests it.

Thanks,

I think I'll start the game from scratch via emulator using the 3.5" version, I might be able to make a good walkthrough doc and video at some point then.

Sorry, didn't notice this back in November...

Just so people know, there's a couple of months lead in time for my stuff in Retro Gamer so the review was actually written during September - someone sent an email in through the address in the mag when the free version was released, it was passed to Darran and then to me.

i do try to keep an eye on what's happening at these forums (and can i just say you're all very naughty for the pops at the C64, talk about brown envy! =-) but the same is true of Atari Age, Denial, the CSDb, WOS, Retro Remakes, the MSXdev site and far too many RSS feeds to remember, so if there's any new release or in progress project you lot feel i should be aware of, please feel free to drop me a line through the PM system here or at the Retro Gamer (http://retrogamer.net/) forum, through Oldschool Gaming (http://oldschool-gaming.com/) (a few people from the other 8-bit communities bring over release notes from other sites and, since Shaun Bebbington pops by as well, it's a good catch-all to let both of us know at once), by email at jason[dot]kelk[squiggle]gmail[spot]com or on Facebook, whatever works best.

Oh, h'lo and everything since this is a first post. =-)

Hi Nich,

Thanks for your reply!

Spoiler: ShowHide

I thought that was the answer, but I cannot figure how to solve the maze because I cannot stay much longer than 4-5 screens without radioactive protection and I cannot use the robot while in the maze due to radiation.

My current progress in the maze is as follows:

If I go through the open door to the room to the right of the robot, I can open the passage to the back of the maze, but I get stuck there and die. And I can't figure how to get the robot out there and still be able to go through the open door (as it closes to let the robot go out there).

I don't know if all those minigames where easy for you or not, but for me it almost made me stop playing the game altogether.

Thanks for your help!

It is possible - but the lever is jammed, so you will need to find a way to free it. However, I wouldn't advise pulling the lever yourself once you have freed it!

Nich said that you have to rescue her after the reactor is set to self destruct, which gives very little time.

As you cannot use the elevator, you have to go directly to level 2 and from there to level 1. Is she in the pumps level?

Tried to rescue her before and after setting the reactor to destruct and still didn't get the new ending :(

Edit: Also on level 4 couldn't find her after the reactor activation.

Ok, forget it, I FINALLY GOT IT!!!

Wow, that was a hell of a game, but one of the best games ever!

The only thing that I truly dislike was the racinga and the primary pump minigames. I started to play the french version and stopped playing it because of the primary pump, some months later I bought it and got stucked in the same place, so I had to play it in winape at 50% speed in order to achieve it which is a bit of a dissapointment because I couldn't play it on my cpc.

Anyway, great great game, great history and awesome technically speaking!

C'est magnifique!  8)

The racing game is actually pretty easy on a real CPC, I think... Of course you only have to beat the "HAK" hiscore. As for the primary pump game, maybe it's a bit too difficult... It's quite hard to judge if a game is hard or not...

Hi, and thank you all for your help!

I have now completed the game with the first ending, and now it is time to go for the other endings!
But I still haven't seen Helena, who has been mentioned many times throughout this thread.

So I have to ask, where can I find her?
I've seen the hints given earlier, and I think that I understand them, but I'm still stuck.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe she is to be found...
Spoiler: ShowHide
...in the corridor outside the Captain's room, right? At least the fixed movie made me think so. If so, how do I get in contact with her? Or if I'm totally wrong, where should I look?

Thanks!

Oh well. Good thing one can always reload and try again.
On to the last quest:
Spoiler: ShowHide
Helena is finally awake! It did pay off to rub one's eyes and look again, thanks!  :)
And then, finally... The code to the reactor! One part found in the hallway. Reading the text (aloud, even!) only gives me the 3 obvious digits. What is it that I do not see (or hear)?

Well I don't know how is it written in english, but you should read articles such as "a" or "an" as "one", which happens to be a number too  ;)

All the 6 digits, as said in other posts in this thread are indeed in that quoted sentence.

Targhan, what do you think about this matter?
Title: Re: Orion Prime Support (was: Orion Prime : ordering has started !)

We're a bit against releasing it because it was meant to be a goodie exclusive for the people who bought the game, so please don't spread it on the net. However, if some people want your scan and it doesn't bother you to send it, then it's ok to me.
Title: True Colours?
Post by: Nordeide on 19:16, 21 January 11
Hello again!  :)
According to the disc cover, the images in the game are displayed in 125 colours. Can anyone explain how this is accomplished? I thought the Amstrad's palette was restricted to 27 colours.
Title: Re: Orion Prime Support (was: Orion Prime : ordering has started !)
Post by: MacDeath on 19:39, 21 January 11
Not exactly all images in the game...

Some screens use flipping screens to achieve a pseudo 120+ colours...

you alternate 2 versions of the same picture with different inks/colours set so the eyes see those as a crossbreed between both colours...

Needless to say it is not recommended for Epileptic persons. ;D

Fipscreens can be created easily.
JavaCPC Paint offers this feature for normal 16k screens.
You can edit 2 screens @ the same time and then also do a preview of your flipscreen.

Only restriction is:
- Both images must be in the same mode
- You have to use the same palette for both

JavaCPC also offers a "deinterlace" filter which removes the flickering.
(I do that by painting 2 screens on 1 where the 2nd has 50% transparency)

Example:

Same can be done for CPC+ flipscreens:

That's a wonderful game. I have only recently found the guts to play through it. Such non-linearity is great, I don't remember any adventure (though I haven't played everything) where you can do what you have to do in so many different orders. The riddles are hard enough to keep you but just right, quite logical. I am glad there is not a solution released yet because I had the fun trying hard to solve it, where usually I don't have the patience and I get into temptation and then the fullfillment of finding something by yourself is not there.

So, this is the first time I am asking for some help, even though I came numerous of times in this forum and found out lot's of things I was missing.

I am near the end. I don't know what I have missed.
So, I have opened the reactor door but only the robot can go inside. It can get the commander's card but that's it.
When I go inside, I get instantly a message saying that my internal organs are fried from a radioactive wave.
Looking at answers, in this forum, I get "oh, you fired the four missiles, so you can go in the reactor door very fast and do what you have to do fast". But this is not the case. I get the message of death instantly! I can't react. The part with the four missiles was done a lot before and that was used to move safely in the 6th floor except from inside the reactor door.

Ahhh,. I answered that myself!!!

Just so you know. I was just too stuborn. I wanted to go into the reactor door and do what I have to do before doing anything else. What if I avoid this and just go to my ship and try to take off since everything is in order? Then I receive a PDA message.

Someone said about the final quatrain password:
Spoiler: ShowHide
Well I don't know how is it written in english, but you should read articles such as "a" or "an" as "one", which happens to be a number too

I don't get it. I mean,. do I also have to read "an"d, peas"an"ts as ones? If I do so then I get way more than 6 numbers.

Without it, I still get my six numbers. But they still don't work (along with the 3 numbers in a piece of paper). I have tried (3 number) before (6 numbers) or after, or with some numbers mixed. Why???

Help!!!

Well done!

jsyk, I thought one number is 10, in ex"ten"ded. But it probably isn't and I was missing two more numbers that are there.

That was a great game. I even admire the final upscroller, where it seems there is a trick similar to antialiasing used, for slower moving smoother scrolling. Cool!

Hey!

I managed to complete the game with the 3 endings in just 2h 47min 53secs, do I get a cookie for that?  ;)

Still one of my favourite games. I like specially when you rescue Helena and you have to run to the ship. Ahhh, the tension, the emotion!

No, because I'm sure you can do it in twice less time :). Thanks for sharing your experience.

It blends so well that if it wasn't for the emulator I might have not noticed it :)
Few days ago I restored back my real CPC and had a longplay till I reach this part again. I couldn't notice it but there was something about this scroller anyway (and too long, I slept in my bed because it was too late after playing for three hours, and watched the scroller till I slept :)

This game has been mostly fun so far, but is really frustrating me at the moment.

I've read all the spoilers in here and some have been helpful. I'd love it if someone could answer a couple of questions for me so maybe I can start moving forward again:

Spoiler: ShowHide

Is there anything beyond the debris? I am guessing I want to get to the officer's quarters. I have tried wandering around in the dark and "looking for the light" but everything just looks purple instead. Perhaps telling me which room I am meant to be looking in for this light?

I got the commander's card but the AI is refusing to talk to me. How can I convince it to help me?

Finally (for the moment): I went through the maze of connecting rooms on the 6th level and found a computer with a bunch of information in it (that had the code to unlock the reactor door). Is there anything else in there or can I leave it alone now?

Thanks very much for any help. Please don't be too cryptic as the game is doing enough of that for me!

Hi!

Here are your answers:

Spoiler: ShowHide

1) Yes, you're right. You have to go beyond the debris to office quarters. You have to look in the room where the telephone, and arcade machines are. There's a corner that you can check, that has a glow which can only be seen in the 'dark'. After you check it, you can enter there with the light on.

2) You need the recorder for this. Save the camera in which you see the captain talking in his room to the microdisc, go to level 4 and play it at the cinema, and record it with the recorder. Then go to the AI, use your card and then identify yourself by playing the recorder again.

3) You can now forget about it, but you have not the full destruction code, only the first part.

Hope this helps!  :D

Oh, and welcome to the forum!

Thanks heaps!

One more thing:
Spoiler: ShowHide
I found the log about the lottery and went down to the store, but it says that the item was already delivered and 0 remain. None of the crew lockers match the name of the person who won the lottery and for the life of me I can't remember where I found the log? I've been pixel hunting all over the ship but I feel like I'm missing something obvious again.
Can I get a push in the right direction?

Thanks again!

If you entered the code for the item, you should look in a box or tray that its near the floor. That's where the items are dropped, you only have to take it.

I misread the message as meaning the intended person had already received the item and I was meant to hunt down wherever they had stashed it.

I must admit I am rather embarrassed to say that I have only just played this, simply astounding, game today! Being someone who's 'kinda famous' for his knowledge of point and click adventure games, you would have thought I'd play it on the day of release... then release the full speed-run walkthrough a few hours later! But...
... anyway!

Thanks and congratulations to everyone involved for such a great product! It looks, sounds and plays brilliantly! Can't wait for the sequel! ^_^

Am I the only one who wasn't annoyed with the Pump Station mini-game? It was a decent distraction from puzzle solving and, without it, I might still be stuck now! (That Robot ID puzzle was a real stinker and I needed some time to think it over!)
I also liked the fact that you get a bigger, better ending depending on how much you complete. It really rewards the player who takes the time to find the only survivor and destroy the ship!

Same can be done for CPC+ flipscreens:

The heck?  My pixels sure have a habit of turning up in strange places and usages.  Looks kinda neat on a fake CPC monitor screen like that though.  Sorry for going off topic.  Funnily enough that mock up shot was actually based on a CPC game anyways.

This looks exceedingly sweet... where is it taken from?
Title: Re: Orion Prime Support (was: Orion Prime : ordering has started !)
Post by: Carnivius on 13:28, 21 August 11
That was a piece I did for a Pixel Joint challenge called 'Retro Remakes' in which we just were to make new mock ups of old games.  I based mine on the game 'Werewolves of London' game I had on my CPC which I found quite fun now and then.  It's a pretty extensive remake mock up and doesn't bare a whole lot of similarities to the original game but the clues are there.

Devilmarkus has 'CPC Monitor-fied' the piece to make that screenshot there which I hadn't seen before a couple days ago.

Yes, it's nice. But if you guys want to use it for a game, then some overwork would be needed:

- First, the worst: The cross a the bottle (upper left corner in picture) is a classical artefact from a screen-conversion. That shady pixels near the center of the cross really disturb. Just replace them by white and it looks far better.

- The background horizon (blue part on left side, behind house) has a lot of bulky double-pixel spots, Instead of making it faint it just makes it blocky. Overwork by hand can make that better.

- The colors over all are like "worn out and after-darkened". Since you are using the Plus(!) palette, better colors can be choosen.

Since you guys are experts in GFX I expect more  ;)  Good luck with that!

and to be fair the original piece is not a CPC graphic at all when I created it.  It's just used here run through the emulator or something Devilmarkus did to it :P   When I do a something for the CPC I specifically make it from scratch with the CPC's actual graphic specs rather than just converting pre-existing graphics.

What I did while playing on a real CPC was to dump the disk, play with my save game on WinAPE at 50% speed to be able to complete the pump game, wrote the disk back and continued playing.

Somewhere in this thread the game coder has said that there isn't any way to bypass it.
By the way, you can still almost reach the first end without doing it (you can collect the star map and repair your spaceship).
