Pinball Dreams - What are the differences between the M4 and Normal DSK

I guess this is a question for the Batman group....

I am not being stupid here. I get that the M4 release runs on an M4! but so, in my experience at least, does the normal 3.5inch disc release. In fact I have tested both just now and can confirm this to be true.


I know during development there was a rumour that the M4 release would utilise an online scoreboard but I do not see this as having been included anywhere. If you try an run the M4 version with the M4rom off then it just shows a message saying the M4 is not found.


so the question is. what are the differences, and why was an M4 version made available then the standard version seems to work perfectly well?

I don't know if M4 now emulates direct hardware disk access, but at the time of PD's release the FDC trackloader had to be replaced by a specific M4 loading routine.

Thanks Rhino, so it was just the loading process, nothing else. great to have the confirmation... although online scoreboards for M4 owners would be bloody amazing in any game *Hint Hint*

Yes, it would have been great, but in the end we thought it was relatively easy to fake the score and ruin the ranking.

there is already a game that allows you to upload the points to the internet, and so far there has been no problem.

An M4 automatic upload would be even better. I've played this and love Puzzle Bobble, but when it came to codes etc to upload the scores I could not be arsed!
