I had this comment in one of my YouTube videos -

QuoteHave you ever looked into doing Squeek from US Gold? I   remember there was a massive thing in the news that they had to pull it   off shelves as the character would swear in the game.                                LarryBundyJr

Quote@Xyphoe   It was definitely Skweek, I strongly remember it as a kid as it was   one of the few times an Amstrad game made it into the mainstream press. I   believe a few issues of Amstrad Action / Amstrad Computer User   mentioned it too.                                LarryBundyJr

Does anyone know anything about this or remember? I can't find anything from Googling about

Skweek was released by Loriciel in 1989, it was available for quite a few platforms as far as I know, but I have no memories of it being banned or of it having any cursing in it. There was a follow up called Super Skweek too.

Edit: You can download it here: http://www.loriciel.net/fiche.php?id=61

Oops, that doesn't work, you can get it here though: http://www.theoldcomputer.com/roms/index.php?folder=Amstrad/CPC/Games/[DSK]/s

Thanks guys, of course I'm aware of the game and sites like CPC Power (first site I looked at for information) but there's nothing listed for this 'controversy' if it did indeed exist.

mmm.Ask to developers of game.If skweek is banned, maybe they  know.

On the other hand most demos used the F word a lot... :P

Both of the "Skweek" games interesting enough have that French Connection - not that means anything merely saying Loriciels were involved making the game, "Super Skweek" was all Loriciels, where's "Skweek" seems to be a jointed thing between U.S. GOLD & Loriciels. Handy cause I've got a copy of the original review from AA47 on hand which don't mention anything about Swearing, though at the end of their description of the game they ask the question "why doesn't the little geezer actually make a noise, let alone a skweek?" Or does the Swearing in a caption during the game, or perhaps the swearing is sound which was eliminated from another version before a CPC version was make, not sure cause I though Loriciels only made CPC games, though that's just my silly way of thinking that everyone only embraced the CPC!  ;D

"Gloups" and "Arggg".... swearings ?

Yet yes, Loriciel was well into CPC.
Because it was one of its stapple income market.

Ooooh. Looks like it may be true!

Came across a small news article in Amstrad Action today confirming this -

Explains why I missed it, I missed AA48 - actually I recall having the opportunity of buying AA48 at the time (merely for the Type-ins, though at the time I missed AA45 which had the Typewriter program and cause AA48 had this huge thing in it, I presumed it needed the Typewriter to get it to work (what a strange mind I had back then!  :-[ ), since it had those weird codes! As it was the type-in in AA48 was missing some lines, which were included in AA49 and I personally had no chance of getting AA49, so it would have looked bad for them given the length of time it would take to type that program in and not being able to get it to work!  :-\  Pat McDonald had an excellent run of faulty programs (Sprite Designer in AA43, Typewriter in AA45) which went into AA and his Module Designer was no exception!  ;D
