I've just got my first cpc464. I have a ULIFAC on it's way to me, and I'm looking for some recommendations for games to introduce me to the CPC.

I don't want any lazy Spectrum ports (I have a Spectrum and grew up with one). I'm looking for advice on games that show off how unique and good the cpc is.

A mix of original 80s games and modern releases would be great.

Ideas please?   :D

... sorry, I just had to, because I'm too exhausted to think of a serious reply. But I'm sure others will chime in!

Original releases:

You could start with:

Renegade
Gryzor
Ikari Warriors
Chase HQ
Mission Genocide
Super Cauldron

About "new" games for 464, it is easy, I would recommend the first 2-3 qualified games in every cpcretrodev... they are normally very nice games and they all are 464 compatible.

Apart from that, if you have memory expansion, Pinball Dreams, or Alcon 2020.., there are plenty of very nice games nowadays.

some homebrew examples: Orion Prime, El Tesoro Perdido de Cuauthemoc, super edge grinder, subhunter, star sabre, cpc jewels, siemb, red sunset, Toki, imperial mahjong, revenge of trasmoz, Ramiro el vampiro 4, Hyperdrive, Fres Fighter, Shadows of Sergoth, Scramble, Baba's palace...

and some commercial era games: Robocop, Batman The Movie, Batman, TMNT Arcade, Spherical, Exolon, Savage, Trantor, Operation Wolf, Island Dr. Destructo, Prohibition, Thargan, Bob Winner, Xyphoes Fantasy, Panza kick boxing, Head over heels, switchblade...

Prehistorik 2 and Super Cauldron deserve to be on the list, though better with 128K. A memory expansion will also let you play the R-Type remake and that's definitely one to try out.

Iconsgr started a collection of "worth to play" games that are also compatible with the USIFAC direct load feature.

You can find the link to the repository and plenty of personal recommendations in this thread:

Some more oldies: Tubaruba, Fruity Frank, Donkey Kong, Sorcery, Flyspy, Radzone, Quack a Jack, Get Dexter, Inside Outing, MGT

Some more newies: Dragon Attack, Penguin Attack, Abduction of Oscar Z.

Hello, always glad to see newcomers around 8)

I would suggest you to watch one of those Youtube videos entitled "TOP 100 Best Amstrad CPC games" and pick the ones that may potentially interest YOU ;)

On top of what has been said above, I would also include: Arkanoid, Bomb Jack, Classic Invaders, Commando, Light Force, Moon Cresta, Titus Classiques volumes 1 & 2, Who Dares Wins II.... they are games providing immediate fun & 100% compatible with your Amstrad CPC 464.

And if you would have only 1 game to play on the Amstrad: just go with Fruity Frank, despite its age it remains the BEST game ever released IMO. 8) (Yep!).

My current project is Sonic GX, a remake of Sonic the Hedgehog for the awesome Amstrad GX-4000 game console!

Have a look at the reviews and ratings at CPC Game Reviews. There are download links as well.

I would try Skweek, Gauntlet 2, Rainbow Islands, Ikari Warriors, Pinball Dreams, Bubble Bobble (remake), Zap't'Balls, Chase HQ, RoboCop, Arkanoid 2, Thrust and my personal favourite, Trailblazer.
