Yes it just boots up from Laser Squad Ext pack .

Ok - I believe you! I've got the lsqdkit.zip file which contains LSQDKIT1.DSK & LASERSQ.DSK. So I do the usual (WINAPE) insert disc image thing, If I pick LASERSQ.DSK - I can play Laser Squad. If I do this again I try to use LSQDKIT1.DSK - nothing, zip - no action, CAT gives me no files... I'm just not sure what exactly I'm doing wrong...

Try as I might, I can't seem to get anything happening with LSQDKIT1.DSK

Can you list out you exact steps? or heck, even upload a snapshot file (.sna) of the Expansion pack loaded!!

Thanks

I think there is a modus operandi for that on CPC-power.

1.Try getting a new Rom Dump from CPC Power of Laser Squad-Kit 1, (which is what I did yesterday)
2. Load up WinApe
3. Select the Disc File LaserSquad-Kit 1.open up that file.
4. WinApe does the auto load thing and Bobs your Uncle .Et Voila .
The only problem I can see that you have is that Rom you have is not the right?

Sadly it's a speccy port, that makes it slow, the screen area small and the scrolling jerky.

None of that ever bothered me cos the game itself was just so enjoyable and had so much going on.  Easily among my fave shooters on CPC.

Also you can play it at a 'normal' speed if using Turbo mode in WinApe.
Favorite CPC games: Count Duckula 3, Oh Mummy Returns, RoboCop Resurrection, Tankbusters Afterlife

Puresox

I could just about forgive the slow down on UN Squadron , because it was an enjoyable  game. Almost superb .

Hm, I never played the Speccy version of UN Squadron, but I don't see colour clash or monochrome screen in the CPC version, it's MODE 0 all the way (or I am confused and thinking of another game?). It could probably have been done better on the CPC by utilising the CRTC, but the game as such is fine and playable.

If he's right then I think he means it's one of those weird cases where the code is ported from Spectrum but the graphics are all (beautifully) redrawn in Mode 0 based on the original 16-bit/arcade game to make much better use of the CPC's superior graphics abilities.  So I don't consider it a Spectrum port really cos it's actually had effort poured into it, at least on the graphics side of things.

MaV

Yes, that's probably what he meant.

Was there a 128k version of it? I can see TFM's point when one has more RAM, as most CRTC techniques require a bit more RAM to work properly.

As a game which has to work on the 464 as well, the choice for a smaller screen and lack of hardware scrolling was likely made out of necessity.

Still not getting the hang of this.....  :(

Meteor Mission 2 on the TRS-80 and Metal Gear Solid 2 on the MSX2.... Now everyone has 512k it would be awesome if we could convert it to the CPC

Carnivius

Yeah but I always felt it was one of the most 'complete' games available for the 464.  Very little was cut out from the original game.   They didn't even kept in the large character portraits, mission briefing screen and shop whereas the C64 version reused the small status panel portraits on the select screen, and cut the briefing and shop graphics down to only include the character's head.   The game sprites are much smaller on the C64 version as well (in some cases almost half the size of the CPC ones) and obviously lacking the extra colours the CPC could fill it's sprites with.

By the way does anyone know why CPC-Power is down again?

I'm surprised there isn't more scenario's out there seeing as the game is virtually the same on every system.

I've been playing Zork. Learned about it watching Chuck when that was on, and now finally have the ability to try it out :)

CraigsBar

Well I've mostly been playing with 5v 3inch floppy drives. I now have 2 6128plus's and 2 Cpc 6128's all with 5v drives. No more 12v powerleads for me. Yippee.

Is that a modded original drive, or a "new" drive?

Yep.  I don't agree with the bad reviews it gets, it's a charming and enjoyable game that captures the concept of the movies well enough.  As I said before in another thread I wish there had been a sequel game that built upon the general gameplay of it greatly (I think it was in a topic about the game Arachnophobia which is similar but with the higher quality you'd expect from a later game).

Token

Rockford on a 464 and GT-64. I owned the Amiga and Atari ST version. Pretty cool on the CPC.

Gryzor

Gryzor.

When I first had it I really sucked at it though I loved it to death (obviously). I managed to finish it a while back and thought hey, I'm good at it now - not so. It's not like a bike, if you leave it, it leaves you. Bummer.

TotO

You can discover a homebrew game on CPC each week.
Actually, I'm playing to Magical Drop !:)
