Hello there my fellow CPC'ers

As I am exhibiting a lot of systems at R3Play in blackpool this year under the AmiBay Events group, amongst my offerings for patrons to lay-down some gaming law wil be my CPC464 + DD-1 Interface and FD-1 & 3.5" FDD combi

(currently burining a Parados ROM =D)

While I have sat through a lot of Youtube *best of* and some discussions here, I would like to know what in your opinion are the games I should arm up my CPC464 to best show off the joy and magnificance of the machine.

While I am it... I should talk to some one about Joysticks / Joypads LOL.

Thanks for reading

Games;
64k - ZYNAPS or STORMLORD. (both games for graphics, playablility AND music)
128k - EDGE GRINDER, the R-TYPE remake (when it's released later this month).

Demos;
(mainly 128k) BATMAN FOREVER, BLOC US!, MIDLINE PROCESS, DEMO IZ ART, MOODY, FROM SCRATCH...

... along with many, many more titles that I could reel off here, but would bore many, many people!

Joystick : my favourite always was the Konix Speccd Kind, sadly it is not that good for left handed, also if you need some keyboard keys too

I also had quikjoy V superboard, wich is excellent for Operation wolf and could manage autofire if I remember well  with addition of a battery...Ok, not sure 100% on this one.

Pic related.

side note : the other kind of joystick I posted (don't remember names, first picture) were shit-fest and shit-tier in my opinion.
I never quite understand why they where so popular...
unstable and poor handle...

Games : Renegade, Gryzor (yet many would argue it is not good because no scrollings, lol)
Combat scholl perhaps.

Head over heels.

Antiriad.
Rick dangerous 2.

PErhaps some sweet french games too...

Golden Eagle2 ? (need 128K I guess)
It really looks like a 16bit.

Prince of Persia too is great.

SyX

+1 to the sweet french games ;)

Usually they don't have a zx or c64 version, because that they use gorgeous mode 0 graphics :)

For example, i always have loved the cpc version of Skweek , so colourful  :D

A mini list of CPC games perfect for a short meeting: Donkey Kong (a wonderful arcade conversion), Bomb Jack (totally adictive), Hundra (easy and short spanish game), Dead on Time (really nice game of Axelay), Sub Hunter (another nice game), Barbarian I (Palace), Betiled, Bruce Lee, Wec Le Mans, Yie Ar Kung Fu, Ping Pong (Konami), Exploding Fist, West Bank, World Games, Tapper (another great arcade conversion), Target Renegade, Prohibition, Operation Wolf, Sabre Wulf, Classic Axiens, Solomon's Keys, ....

Buff, i could follow during hours, better hand over to the next  xDDDD

PD: The Best cpc game sites are CPC Power and CPC Game Reviews :) , and you can get a big pack of games in the CPCGamesCD.

Hey Zetr0!!!

Welcome to this board, my old friend. :)

The Vindicator

@Zetr0
There is no Amiga porn here for you, only CPC porn here ;) I would say Super Cauldron, Turrican 1, Gryzor, Chase hq, Navy moves

AMSDOS

This might sound like an unusual request, though in my storage containers somewhere I've got old Amstrad brochures with the Amstrad CPC 464 on them, one of those brochures is showing Electro Freddy and I think there's another one showing Sultain's Maze on it. I guess that would stand out nostalgically given they were early games used to promote that Machine, but also be funny in a way - unfortunately it would be in a negetative manner, though people who know the machine would realise it moved foward!  :)  Perhaps another game you could use is Chuckie Egg or Jet Boot Jack or Sorcery, try and capture the game which stood out prior to the launch of the 664!  :)
* Using the old Amstrad Languages :D * And create my own ;)
* Incorporating the Firmware :P
* I also like to problem solve code in BASIC :)   * And type-in Type-Ins! :D

Arkanoid 1 & 2.

Yet I think the second lack the sweet musics and some stuff of the first, it is better ameplay wise.

It is still the kind of game you have to show to get the speccy and C64 releaged into the trashcan.

Gryzor

@SyX: Classic Axiens? Wow, I thought I was the only one loving this little gem. Lots of slowing down when things get hectic, but I played the life out of it (and BubbleBus' Classic Invaders, too) back in the day...

Some great titles here, may I just suggest asking permission to demo the, erm, demo of R-Type? Probably the devs would be happy to give you a prerelease version...

Zetr0

This is awesome info here, my sincere thanks for your advices!

@Viddi

My friend, you are here as well!!!!! its like home from home, I hope you are well its been a while since we had a chat!!!

@MacDeath

in your opinion what French Games should I include in the games repertoire?

@Gryzor

I shall ask very nicely if they have or could release a CPC464 - 64k demo of the game for players to get to grips with at the show.  I would make a nice laminate of the developers project page and have it next to the system Monitor if they like =)

Now, about joystick(s)

I am expecting that the joy-port is actually wired up similar to the SJS port on the Amstrad Spectrums?
thus requiring as simple converter lead to work with competition pro's / atari standard 9 pin joystics etc.
If I had a hammer.....

SyX

@Gryzor, YES, I love the 3 Classic from Bubble Bus (Axiens, Invaders and Muncher), 3 great little games that i played at death ;) Take a look to the Titus Classiques 1 & 2, if you don't know, they will surprise too ;)

@Zetr0, take a look to this wiki page for seeing the equivalence between Atari standard and CPC, i have used to make a joystick using arcade parts :)

Zetr0

@SyX

Wow thats quite a simple wire up isn't it!

Sweet!
If I had a hammer.....

Gryzor

Ah, the Titus Classiques, I have some vague memories. Thanks for the tip, will do!

MacDeath

Quotein your opinion what French Games should I include in the games repertoire?
The problem with computer and games at display :

if the gameplay is complicated, peoples won't really test it.

I had this problem with rick128+...
the game is so damn hard that poeples d'ont stick on it.

Many french games were quite...deep... so not always suited for a display at a party.

Perhaps :Disc by loriciel... dion't know if the CPC version is that good anyway.

Well, let's see for Loriciel then...

=Baby Jo : no sounds I guess... but platformers are always good.
=Disc : seem ok gameplaywise to put on display/demo.

=Golden Eagle 2 : too deep game (limit RPG) so not always... but 16biters may want to compare with Atari or Amiga version, this could be good to get both (amiga and Amstrad...) running aside.

=MAch 3 and  Mission : mode1 games... look like the PC CGA version actually.

=Panza kick boxing : sure !

=Skweek (series) : sure !

On  the other hand the few Silmarils games are all good looking.

Windsurf Willy, Thargan, and so on...

tastefulmrship

If you want an 8-bit war, then why not bring out the ultimate 8-bit game...

JET SET WILLY!

Despite being a blatant Speccy port, it sure plays better than the Speccy version. I'd even say it's better than the C64 attempt!
Amstrad CPC wins again! ^_^

(And a 464/6128 teleport special is attached just here for ease of 8-bit smugness!)

Cholo

Lot of games you could take that may not play well, but other people might recognise em for different reasons (like Outrun, Buggy boy, Oh Mummy, Lotus Challenge, Trap Door, Gauntlet, Ghost n Goblins, Green Beret, Dynamite Dux, Monty On the Run, Kung Fu Master, Rolling Thunder, Platoon, Little Computer People, Star Wars).

And some good looking ones:
- Paperboy
- Robocop
- Ikari Warriors
- Trantor
- Batman the Movie
- Savage (at least the walking part).
- Feud (amazing music as well)
- Druid
- Ghostbusters 2
- Cybernoid 1 & 2
- North and South
- Hostages (put it up next to the amiga 500 one)
- Extreme
- 1943
- Star Sabre
- Satan
- Krakout
- Elevator Mission
- Death Wish 3
- Nexus
- Commando
- Lightforce
- Nebulus
- Werewolves of London

Lack of sound really isn't going to be an issue at Replay, last year's event was feckin' noisy and they're aiming to get twice as many people through the door this year - just hearing yourself think is quite a tall order!

i'll be at Replay as well by the way, with a stand for Oldschool Gaming but sadly no Amstrad on display because i only have a 464 and the car we're using just isn't big enough to get it and the monitor in (we're getting tellies for everything else from the organisers). i'll have a C64C (and possibly a C64GS with a few fun toys like a TIB DD-001 if there's space in the storage boxes), Spectrum +2, 16K expanded VIC 20 and Atari 800XL with me, all of which should be running brand new games released during the course of the event.

i like talking at people, so say hello if you see me Zetr0 or indeed anyone else here who might happen to be at the event - i'm fairly easy to spot (although don't go by the picture in Retro Gamer, i usually have my hair in a ponytail and don't scare small children) and hopefully will have an Oldschool Gaming banner somewhere on the tables. =-)

TMR, a TV scart cable for the CPC (i'm using the Alternative RGB wiring with the capacitor) is very easy to do, if i can make it, everybody can  :P

For the power, i'm using an old PC Power Supply (i'm using to for power the 3" 1/2 B Drive, too), and i only had to solder a pair of connectors, one to power the CPC +5V and the other for giving +12V to the internal 3" disk drive. I use this scheme:

PD: Although you will need 128KBs to show Edge Grinder in all its glory ;)

SyX

Yeah, of course is GND, the use of this  -V notation is for showing which wire corresponds at each +V, I did not think that could lead to confusion, sorry  ;)

TotO

Don't confuse me, but can confuse peoples for whatever reasons. ;)
