Nice freebie PDF book by Gareth Pitchford.

If I've posted this previously apologies in advance and off to the Hall Of Shame with it.

It's on Amazon UK. It might well work out cheaper to get it printed locally and shipped direct from Lulu, though. LULU10 gives 10% off at the moment, which should offset your postage a little.

Anyway, the PDF is free. ;) One day I will get around to doing a proper book on homegrown UK text adventures... Plenty to write about! This particular book was just produced a couple of years ago to get the conversation started again about some of the old, forgotten homebrew games... which, I'm glad to say, it did. We've even managed to recover a whole batch of them along the way.

Ah, apologies; was looking to buy the Kindle edition... Not the printed one. Something like 2 dollars!

Not sure what's up there, then. Kindle edition is still listed on Amazon UK, US, IT, ES etc.

Oh cool, I'm so tired I didn't think of checking out UK. I just followed the link from the site!

Gryzor

Damn; can you give me the direct link to .co.uk for the kindle edition, if possible? It only offers me the paperback one...

Thanks!

[EDIT] ah, it decided to appear on .com. Whatever :D

Usually both versions are on the same page, you just click a little link to switch between them.
Too late, I know, but https://smile.amazon.co.uk/Twilight-Inventory-Collection-Forgotten-Adventure-ebook/dp/B077SY55CP

A strange new unpleasant emotion assails me - what can it be?
I think it is what other people call "Guilt"- must remove this emotion ASAP!
Kindle version purchased - the bad feeling is gone, tranquillity returns   :D

Just as a matter of interest what % do you get and what % goes to the impoverished Jeff Bezos?

No need to purchase. The PDF is up there for free. Kindle version is just there for those who want that sort of thing. :)

I think it's something like 90p earned per copy sold on Kindle... which gets used up on the domain name and hosting fees for the site.

I think up to 70% but there are other schemes where royalties are based on pages read or something...

There are two different royalty rates for Kindle ebook sales... You can choose 35% or 70% (minus a delivery charge)... whether each of the options is available, though, depends on the price you set your book to sell at.

The 70% royalty rate isn't actually 70% of the price, as  it doesn't include the VAT (or similar taxes in applicable territories). So a £1.99 ebook on the UK store, only makes £1.66 without VAT.  There is also a delivery charge to pay if you choose the 70% royalty rate, which depends on the file size of the book. So, for example, in the case of my book, this is 38p. Meaning that the royalty from a £1.99 book is actually 90p. Still not that bad, though.

You also have the option to enroll your book in the KDP Select programme... this opens up the 70% royalty option to certain countries (such as Japan). It also adds your book to the Amazon Kindle subscription scheme, where you earn a share of the total KDP fund per pages read. Like the music services like Spotify, this is only a tiny amount (or more realistically zero!) unless you've got lots of books and are a big name author. Being part of KDP Select also means you have to make your eBook *exclusive* to Amazon... You can't make a free version available elsewhere.
