I really wanted to get into this game and do a longplay, as it looks like a cool and creepy game and based on one of my favourite horror movies (Dawn Of The Dead) but am disappointed to find only the French and Spanish versions are available to download and no English instructions.

Does anyone have the UK version on disk at all?

I have found in my collection a copy of it on cassette tape as part of some 'best of UBI Soft' collection ... I note though there's a 64k and 128k version - anyone know what the differences are?

They are graphic differences, richer in 128k logically.

the game scrolls when you go from one room into another.

2 faces for the game...???

Perhaps far more content ?

Ah, and icons bar scrolls too :)

I don't think so, the map is the same.

Oh man, I'm a bit sad.

Whilst the Amstrad version was the ORIGINAL and good for 1986, the Speccy version released in 1990 is much better :(

I've given both versions a good play for 10-20minutes each and far more enjoyed the Speccy version.

The whole interface has been simplified by using less icons and a constant mouse pointer, which does make things so much less cumbersome.

Also because of that combat is improved as you can punch zombies in the head or shoot them. In the Amstrad version the zombies don't even appear in front of you!! You just get a zombie 'icon' appear in the border and 'blip' noise to signify you are entering combat with them... which you then have to waggle the joystick left and right manically for what seems like ages, adding insult to injury I had about 3 or 4 zombies in row! I literally had to rest my wrists from hammering down on the keys for so long between each fight. Shame :(

An attemp of graphical remake was done some time ago in amstrad.es forum http://www.amstrad.es/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1926&hilit=zombi No results (at the moment :D)

Sad world...
Speccy port are worse, Amstrad ports on speccy are better... >:(

Anyway, the other versions were all released after, so yeah the interface was improuved...
Perhaps some Patch/Addon  ?

The Zombi engine was also used for another game (sort of) : Hurlements
(werewolf themed...).

Would be nice to compare perhaps.

Hmmm, I probably have the disc buried somewhere. Is the UK version really not available on the net?

MacDeath

Anyway those games could really benefit from more advanced engine :
better use of less icons (faster shortcuts and gameplay...)

Some rasters (3 zones...) to get something like Mode1 with 10 colours..

And, well... graphic a bit more coloured (3 colours instead of 2 ?)

Also HardSprites for PLUS... :D

And Mouse management.

I don't know of any site where the English version can be downloaded. I have tried to obtain it from eBay a couple of times without success. :( If you do have it and can transfer it to a DSK file, I'm sure that several people on here (including myself) will thank you for it!

Ythcal

Hm, I have the German version somewhere on my discs, have to transfer it to dsk some day, but no English version.

Ooooh! That looks quite nice and interesting!

And interesting to compare too!

How annoying the Amstrad version was left out of getting a makeover in 1990... the C64 version did but the Amstrad version was the original game!!! GRRR!

MacDeath

Look : the PC CGA version is Amstrad Perfect ! :P
