Title: Anyone else seen on ebay someone selling Amstrad games for way over their worth?
Post by: mark25810 on 18:33, 21 September 21
I just went to browse ebay and could not help but burst out laughing to myself when i saw someone selling 27 amstrad games...none of which has been tested for £299.99. even if they all worked they would be hard pushed to get £60 for the lot

JOB LOT OF 27 AMSTRAD CPC 464 SOFTWARE TAPES / GAMES | eBay (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133883367411?hash=item1f2c120ff3:g:b44AAOSwdDRhShAo)

Has Anyone else seen such madness with retro gaming before?

Welcome to 2021.

Yes, it's the sad state of the retro-gaming market. This basically happens right now to every machines < 1995.

Some people understood that many $$$ could be extracted from nostalgia !

This trend started I would say back in 2010, and it's not going to stop soon for sure.

The original XBOX / PlayStation.. can still be acquired for "nothing" nowadays. Just wait 5-10 years from now and you will see the prices starting to raise once again.

Actually I was just reading yesterday how PS1 prices have started skyrocketing... Yeah, only 104 million units sold but hey, let's scalp.

I have a box of PS2's here. Any Idea when I will be able to consider those my retirement fund? They must be up next surely?

Bryce.

Well, let's see, 2>1 and 155m>104m so by the market's standards you're good to go.

The same seller is selling Paperboy 2 for £299.99!
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133877828942?hash=item1f2bbd8d4e:g:vKQAAOSwlF9hQiPC (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133877828942?hash=item1f2bbd8d4e:g:vKQAAOSwlF9hQiPC)

I remember ordering a pack of 10 'ex-software' blanks discs for around £10 from Wizard Games in the mid-nineties, and all 10 were Paperboy 2 with new labels attached....

Original purchase price 5.95, since the listing is open to offers why not offer that, or maybe 2.99 for it.

I bought a load of those at the time!! Captain Planet was the other game.
And they were only quick formatted too! You could easily undelete it and use the game if you didn't have it! :)

Things are worth what people pay for it. That's the idea of a free market.

If you don't like it get in contact with the CPC and move to China  ;) :-*

That's some very twisted logic and ignores basic economic principles, if you want to go the "free market" way...

Ebay is a free marked. Things get sold for what other people pay.
About the CPC, it's scarcely the case that people understand my kind of humor in this forum (just because I don't talk about boobs...  :'(   :P  :) :) :) )

Man, I have a degree in economics. This is not it. Boobs or not.

Much as I disagree with TFM on a lot of things, I have to agree with him here.
A lot of posters here love to try and take the moral high ground, and I get that. But it's not a fluffy bunny candy floss world out there and it never was. The retro market is supply and demand right now and S&D was always a thing (Remember the fiasco over the Elsa Frozen dolls a few years back and people almost killing each other to get them? Or the US Beanie Baby craze in the 90s?)

Fairness goes out the window. It's what happens in today's capitalist society.
Do I think it's right? No, but if someone wishes to charge whatever they like with the knowledge that someone will pay for it, that's their decision ultimately. Look at the prices of Apple devices today for example! They were always expensive but now they're laughable.

That's how competitive markets work, don't like it? Move to Cuba! Voodoo economics is back baby!

Still not a free market. Even by the US (that is, pretty distorted) criteria it lacks competition and supply/demand is not resolved at an optimum.
