Maybe this is a stupid question but is there a way to autoload games (cassette or floppy) without writing the boring words "run [filename]" every time I'd like to play a game? I'd like a direct-boot like the Atari 8 bit computers...

Devilmarkus

For the CPC 464 without floppy you can press CTRL + small enter key to get RUN" on the screen.
You don't need a filename here.
For CPCs with floppy drives thats not working.
But you can CAT the drive and then copy the name into last line, press CTRL+left arrow to jump to begin of line and press CTRL + small enter key then.

So, short answer, no, there's no "Autorun" feature on the CPC :)

MacDeath

Well, provided you write a proper os and put it on ROM and change the existing ROMs...

Or get this for a PLUS computer (probably on 6128...) on a custom OS Cartridge... :P

Far simplier to write run"...

Am I wrong to think that if they had thought of it it would be easy to implement?

They just assumed that people buying CPCs were going to be slightly more patient[nb]Clever? Surely not...[/nb] than Atari users.  :)

In AA56 there was a Type-In which allowed you to simply type in Star-Dot "*." which would then proceed to catalog the tape or disc. Perhaps it could be patched to do run"disc, |cpm or whatever?
Ctrl+Small Enter is the quickest way for tape (no filename is required), and like Devilmarkus has said, copying the filename (or just typing it) followed by CTRL & Up arrow to move the cursor back, then CTRL+Small Enter will work for disc!  :)

Of course to get Star-Dot you may need to type it in!  ;)
* Using the old Amstrad Languages :D   * with the Firmware :P
* I also like to problem solve code in BASIC :)   * And type-in Type-Ins! :D
