Anyway when it arrive i can create a little page in the wiki, with the scaned manual. The list of the games, the compatibility with everdrives, a picture working etc... If its o.k for you.

Gryzor

Well, it's not CPC-related, but perhaps it could fit under the general Amstrad page :)

Not a CPC, not on eBay, and no idea how rare it is.  :D

But I thought someone out there might be interested in this:
It's a PCW 8256..

I'm 100% certain they have no idea what it is. No idea if it functions or not.

The only issue is it's local to North Carolina and they don't offer shipping.

The pcw was sold in eeuu I not sure if in Walmart I remember read it in one of the books of sugar.

Gryzor

I do remember tha AMS wanted to enter the US market, but I didn't know they actually shipped. If you google "PCW USA" you'll find a few stories of people saying "shit, I found this thing! Wow!" from the States, probably indicating a very low count, if true.

Yeah, I have read they buy a small quantity even with alan sugar advertisement that they not should sell well in eeuu because the increment costs.

They not sell good, and they down the price to the normal European price. The pcw sells good then, so they ask Alan sugar more comptures at that price. And sugars tell they these are impossible due to the taxes and cost to eeuu shipment. And they not sell more.

Edit I have found it:
"

Amstrad achieved what appeared to be a breakthrough in March 1986, when it signed a marketing agreement with Sears World Trade, the overseas trading arm of Chicago-based Sears, Roebuck - the world's largest retail chain. Sears was bullish at first, telling the Wall Street Journal that it expected Amstrad to sell more word processors in North America than in Europe. It seemed set to place an initial order for 100,000 of Amstrad's PCW8256 word processors for sale in the U.S."

And they continue explaining over few pages.

"They obtained the marketing rights to our word processor, ordered shiploads and stored them in a warehouse in stacks nearly as high as the Sears Tower in Chicago. Someone forgot to organize the marketing".

Then they tell want sell in eeuu, the pc1512,  Sears don't want, and they sell it in Texas thorugt "video" the commodore distributor. Then video was latter buyed by amstrad in 1987. Making a amstrad  subsidiary.

And then they go to speak about jose luis domnguez, solavox and the 6128.

Just for the record, eeuu is the spanish equivalent of USA. Just in case anyone else was asking "What's that?".

Bryce.

Gryzor

Estados Unidos (I guess?) with double letters due to plural. We use similar doubling in Greek some times.

I knew it but the first time I had to do a double take, I thought the keyboard got stuck while typing EU :D

Yeah, I have also found a  very interesting article in the New York times around 1987:

https://www.nytimes.com/1987/09/26/business/amstrad-plots-a-us-invasion.html

The company that buy amstrad was called vidco, not video XD.

My initial thought is that Durham, NC is a huge university town. Three or four giant Universities within 50km.  Could have come along with a student from some foreign land... and stayed in NC. lol

I would normally have grabbed it just to keep it out of a recycling bin, but they don't offer shipping and my other options are a bit beyond my price range.

Funny interface... looks like for Amstrad but don't know what it is

Hmm, looks a bit like those ZX Spectrum joystick adapters, just with a homemade case or something like that ....

Not 100% sure it's the same, but I think I saw it few month ago, cpcwiki people talked about PCW hardware :)
