Hello.

I'm new to this forum and a fresh owner of an Amstrad CPC6128 with GT65. Never had a CPC before so this is a new experience for me. I had an Amstrad PC1512 with CGA monitor, dual floppy drives and a 20 MB hard drive back in 1989 though. I grew up with Vic-20 and C64 before moving on to PCs.

I got excited about the old stuff in 2002 and since then I've accumulated a retro collection consisting of C64, Vic-20, C128, C128D, Amiga 600, Amiga 1200, Amiga 4000, Spectravideo 328 MkII, Spectravideo 728 MSX, Philips NMS-8250 MSX2, Sinclair Spectrum +3, Sinclair Spectrum + and as my latest acquisition the CPC6128.

I do like popping the hoods of my computers and I'm interested in new homebrew or commercial expansions to these machines. The 6128's floppy drive wasn't working according to the seller and that indeed turned out to be the case. The cranky noise from the drive indicated me a need for a new belt. Luckily, I had experience from changing the belt from my +3 and also an extra belt, so in approximately 30 minutes I had a new belt in and a working floppy drive.  :D

I've ordered a Scart cable to get the 6128 connected to a color monitor and plan to make an adapter to utilize the +3's PSU for powering it up. I'm also interested in finding an easy and relatively cheap way to transfer software onto it.

Welcome!!!  :D

With respect to cheaper and easy ways to transfer software, in case that you have a 3" 1/2 disk drive in your pc, you can attach one to your CPC (and your +3)  and use the CPCDiskXP program.

Hi Protek,
welcome to the forum. Nice retro collection you have there and nice to hear from a user who appreciates having real hardware as opposed to emulators. If you have any questions regarding hardware you can always send them my way.

As far as software transfer is concerned, I can fully recommend the HxC floppy drive emulator. It's not the cheapest option, but it's an excellent solution and you can use it on your +3 too (I do this too).

Bryce.

Thanks for a warm welcome! :)

I placed an order for an RGB Scart cable to be able to enjoy colors and picked up some bits and pieces to make an adapter to be able to use the PSU of my +3 to power up the Amstrad while using the Scart. Already tested the adapter. :)
