Hello from a ZX-kid.

Hi folks. Back in the Eighties it took me few years to scrape enough pennies just to buy an old Timex 2048, the much more expensive CPC-world was well out of reach for me. I eventually moved to C64 & Amiga but always had a soft spot for Amstrad. I think it was the best looking of all the micros (6128 at least) and a Z80 powerhouse too. Pity that these days it gets the least love of all the Micro Big Four, but, I'm glad there are still some pasionates keeping the CPC scene and spirit alive.

I move a lot but now I'm in Europe for some time and have decided to fulfill the 30+ year old wish. So, just bought an Amstrad 6128, unfortunately without the monitor...but I have a nice Trinitron to complement it. All hail Z80!

Great to hear you've got the chance to take a look at the good old CPC!... personally I prefer the quirky look of the 464, but the 6128 probably has a more 'pro' look... of course, these days, the 6128 is certainly the better system to get.

The Timex 2048 isn't a system I'm familiar with, how did it compare to the Specrum?

As Keith said I find the 464 to be the prettier of the lot, but of course the 6128 is much more pro and modern.

Have fun - the Trinitron should be more than enough for an authentic feeling How do you connect to it?

Yep, 464 has a more funky look, especially that coloured-keys edition. But 6128 with its perfect floppy integration was always at the top of my design ranking. It's quite amazing how responsive its keyboard still is, after all these years.

Timex 2048 was basically a ZX clone in reality, even if not technically. I used to think it's 100% compatible, but even if not it's quite close. A versatile little micro, had a bit better keyboard than the original rubber Spectrum 48K.

Thanks Gryzor, my Trinitron is indeed a cracker, because this model has a near-PVM quality and is still in a good nick. Problem is, it does not seem to play nice with Amstrad, a great woe I described in this thread: http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/technical-support/no-rgb-via-scart-cable/

I'm afraid this post may be a bit rambling and unclear, but really wish somebody could help me out and tell me if these images I linked to really are RGB or should I start dissecting the DIY cable I connect to the TV with.
