Err... ok, this is quite difficult to explain! I need to replicate an AY sound in STarkos (or Arkos), but I cannot work out how to do it!
Ummm... how to describe this sound?!?!?

Ok, load up FUTURE KNIGHT (by Benn Daglish) or BATTLE VALLEY (arranged by JDR, original by Jochen Hippel). Both of these tracks have sustained notes that seem to "pulse" (for the want of a better word) just like the SID chip can do using a PULSE note! You can hear these "pulses" at the beginning of both tracks.

They seem to use 2 channels to produce this effect. Is this done by hardware ENVs or just the result of playing slightly different notes (284 & 286 for example) on both channels? Though, STarkos doesn't replicate it in WinAPE as I have already tried... and neither does Arkos, by the way!

Ta muchly in advance,
- JTMS...

EDIT: I can supply .wav clips if my explanation is so far out, it's completely unintelligible!

I think that this is what you are looking for.
Hehehe. Thanks, that's the fella!

It's strange that it didn't work for me when I tried in STarkos! Maybe -/+ 2 wasn't enough to get the effect working... or (and this is probably the real reason) I'm just crap!
^_^

EDIT: Ah! I see where I went wrong. It only works with channels 1+2 or 2+4! I was using channels 1+4! D'oh! Thanks again!

Try to change the values in real time, you can hear how the cycle of the flanger changes.

Yes, quite impressive.
You can use the live pitch-bend to change note without having to build another instrument to get the same "flange" frequency.

(I like that word... flange!)

EDIT1: Mmm... it might need a bit of song speed tweaking as well; as the pitch-bend is dependant on the song speed! Things to ponder on! ^_^

EDIT2: D-1 sounds amazing. I could listen to that all day.

I like the more extreme phase sound; more wobbly (he called it watery) sound. (I think, from that, you can probably guess what type of "music" I'm trying to do! ^_^)

It's a shame you can't do the same to hardENV... but that has its own version of phase/flange, I guess!

(NOTE: The word "music" is used here in it's most loosest possible meaning!)

You can try and experiment using this technique with hardware envelopes, you may not get a flange sound every time but you could discover some interesting "noises" :)
