I really dislike the idea of butchering my CPCs case, or rendering it incompatible with its original peripherals, BUT...

I want to modernise it to fit into my current set up, and that means I need to add an alternate power input (USB-C), and AV out (10 pin mini din, like a Sega Saturn).... and thoughts on where I can place these with the minimum amount of "surgery".

Context: I live in an old tenement building and plug sockets are at a premium, and miles apart (so I'm using good quality power splitters to drive my retro kit off of USB C).
I'm also trying to unify all my (pre HDMI) systems on the 10 pin mini din as it's got just the right amount of pins to support everything. It also meant no faffing with cables to swap out my current system for the next one in rotation (just a Saturn cable into my GBS Control for everything)

Thanks

🤔... hmm what about after market shells? I wouldn't feel bad about transferring the computer to a new shell and storing the old one (to keep the system "complete") that way I can slice and dice to my hearts content... If such a thing exists can you get them without tape drives (my desk is gonna struggle for space with this behemoth on it 😅)

If you are adding a socket, then I'd recommend mounting near the original power socket on the tapedeck side, so that you don't block any larger peripherals (DDI-1 etc) that you might want to use.
If you really don't want to modify the case at all, you could add a USB-C socket on a short flylead and feed the wire through the "air-slots" on the lower part of the case at the back. It should fit without having to modify anything or removing any plastic.

I would put spacers in place of the CPC screws, thus making a gap around the CPC and mount the accessories in it.

and didn't punch holes in the CPC  :-X
CPC 6128, Whole 6128 and Only 6128, with .....
NewPAL v3 for use all 128kB RAM by CRTC as VRAM
One chip drver for 512kB extRAM 6128

To put it nicely... Wouldn't that look really shit! :D There'd be a gap the whole way around the case!
If it's just a single power cable, then it should easily fit through the air gaps at the back.

If that's what that suggestion actually means, it would look even worse given the space to fit a mini-din socket in the gap :-\.

If you are looking at adding several extra connections and (understandably) don't want to modify the case that much, then I would definitely consider finding a small external box to mount all the sockets in and then connect it via a suitable multicore cable through the air gaps.
