Hi all friends of the CPC!
I'm curious to find out how much different languages CPC owners do speak. So best thing is maybe to make a poll and then see if we miss somebody.
Please participate! It will help the development of future multi-lingual games and out of curiosity anyway. :)

Bryce.
= I didn't vote because you haven't included my language (Irish, Celtic, Gaelic, Gaeilge, or whatever you prefer to call it)
P.s. We also have Danish, Norwegian, Belgian and Swedish users that probably won't be impressed with the list either, not to mention the fact that you forgot Greek!!!
Thanks Bryce, it's easy to forget languages. Any other idea appreciated.
I just wrote "Irish". But if there is a big difference in slang in Ireland, then let me know, and I will add. :)
I put English but my native language is unintelligible growls and grunts...
Ok, voted. Irish isn't a slang, it's a language, it just seems to have many names :D There are also several dialects, depending on whether you come from the east, west, south or Donegal (what the hell are you guys saying :D ). Then there is Scotish gaelic (probably several versions also) which are very similar on paper, but spoken completely different. Old languages = complicated.
Bryce.
What about people speaking more languages? as i understand more than one language, my games can also be in english, spain, french, netherlnds, suaheli, Afrikaans, php and perl 5. So maybe a multiple choice will be better to get the best "language" for use at games and programms.

@villain (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=210) & Rolli Radio: It's about mother language, Bavarian is missing too. And Switzerduitsch and Austrian. Let's keep it a bit easy. :)
Voted! ;D
Quote from: TFM on 22:05, 17 April 15It's about mother language.
That's what I wanted to point out. ;-) BTW, there's no Belgian language. They have a chance of speaking three different languages, depending from the region.
Greek, and I even have a disk with Greek fonts ;D
luxemburgian missing too! PAPAYA! :P
Hey, romanian is missing :)
Voted, too

Belgian here... you know that Belgium at least has 2 different languages, all coming from neighbour countries, right ?
I mean flemmish is basicall Nederlands variant (just some strong accent) and Wallon is basically french with strong accent as well...
I suspect some poorly chosen choice of choices when you chose the options to choose from in the survey. remove your shoes when you use keyboard with feet.
jokes appart, where are Cobol, Basic, C, Java and Python ?
also I love where the list Finnish.

Oh Jerome did a python like script language for FutureOS back the day. So yes, it can be done. He used that to calculate the tides, which is not trivial because the precise timings are a kind of military secret in France.
All members! Please vote! :) :) :)

Well I haven't studied Python extensively, though I thought it looked a little bit BASIC like. The guy at work who knows Python a lot better than me made it sound like the size of the programs were quite large or something, though I guess that's what you get when memory in unlimited and CPU quite fast, but I was to understand the language is still interpreted? A FutureOS implementation would have to optimize the code as well as being Compiled?

Well, I have to look at this again tbh. Forgot the details... However memory is not an issue, the sturcture underneath is a C program interpreting it IIRC. Gotta search for some discs, somehow I don't have DSK's.
Can it be true we don't have any one from Sweden here?
no russian or australian owners ? ( = no aleste or aiwa ) :-X

There's quite a few Australians here. Most quite active on the Forum. I don't think there's any Russians here though, but I could be wrong?
Bryce.

Ah well Irish (Cork version) will have to do ;D

Thanks for the quick Aussie and English tour, both expressions were new to me
But it sounds like a sad small sip of beer for me... a bit like a "Kölsch" in Cologne. When the first drop reaches the stomach the glass is already empty ;D
But I would gladly join on a stubby as well. I think I never actually tried one.

Only if you drink Kölsch in those 0,2cl glasses! My local happily serves me pints of Kölsch on a regular basis, although "the locals" tend to give me strange looks when they see a pint of Kölsch.
@Urusergi (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=923): Not exactly what I'd call a regular visitor :D
Bryce.
There is a Kölsch hot line!

still not a pint tho. Being English beer must be served in pints! OK 568ml for the eurozone lol.
Interesting that far... only 2 Greeks, but 3 from Norway and Denmark.
Expected a bit more people from eastern Europe though.

I think there's at least another Finn besides me.
Danish catch up now ;)

I know a little Straylian if that helps.
Native English speaker living in Japan - I speak some Japanese
I wonder if there are any other CPC owners in Japan - I've never seen the hardware or software over here - there's atari stuff and even a vectrex in the store in town, but no sign of the CPC
I'm tempted to release a game only in japanese (with kanji) on CPC as a bit of a joke.
I recall a series of NEC computers with a Z80 compatible processor that was built in Japan around 1983/4. I don't recall the models it was something like PC8001A, though there was a couple of others.

Of course the MSX is/was very popular out here, and is Z80 based, in many ways it's the japanese equivalent to the CPC, but their display capabilities are very different.
The early ones could only do hiragana, some of the MSX2's could do Kanji - but needed a 128k rom of symbols to do it - I wonder how doable it would be on an un-upgraded 6128...
