Title: New Member from the Midlands
Post by: SteJ on 17:49, 19 January 22
Greetings all,

Having stumbled over Xyphoe's streams a couple of weeks back I got all misty eyed and have been binging on YouTube videos, old Amstrad Actions and all the rest of it.  I usually lurk on any forums I visit but decided to reach out and share the memories of playing games on a green screen, and assuming that The Blue's Brothers was all green.  Does anybody remember the bug in the AA cover tape that made level four uncompleteable or did I miss a trick in not completing it?

Anyway, I could babble on all day but I shall stop at that and also be grateful if anyone could point me in the direction (as I haven't had too much time to search the forums yet) of any contacts for Amstrad magazines, or tet adventure programmers who may be in need of a writer as I have a pasionate for that. I would also love to learn BASIC as well if anyone knows of some good resources for that.

I'm looking forward to chatting to you all soon!

Welcome to the forum!

I remember the Blues Brothers game, though I have to admit I didn't play it enough to know if there was a bug in the fourth level.

Regarding Amstrad Action, I don't know if your after physical copies, but like with most things, there's loads of AA scans on Archive.org
https://archive.org/search.php?query=amstrad%20action

As for basic, archive.org has some old books on programming too:
https://archive.org/search.php?query=amstrad%20cpc%20basic&and[]=languageSorter%3A%22English%22

CPCwiki has a Locomotive basic reference which is great for quick reference:

Have fun!
Keith

Thanks Keith.

I appreciate all the links, looking forward to exploring everything and delving into the community.  I noticed a new Amtix mag is out as well which will be the first thing on my list when I get my wages.

No. I think I only ever reached as far as the second level. :(

I'm not aware of anyone who needs assistance in writing text adventures, but it may be worth contacting @Strident (https://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=2702) on this forum as he has a strong interest in 'homebrew' text adventures on 8-bit computers. His web site is http://8bitag.com/ and it has some useful guides on how to develop 8-bit text adventures.

Hi Ste,

Welcome to the forum! Fellow Midlander here (based in Rugby) who came back to the CPC about five years ago and isn't entirely sure why I left!

I also edit a rather sporadically released fanzine called Colour Personal Computing (you can find it at www.cpcstore.co.uk (http://www.cpcstore.co.uk))

If you'd fancy writing an article for that on an interesting subject, then I'm always willing to consider contributions.

Cheers,

James.

Hi Ste.
Welcome. Yet another Midlander here ( Worcester).
As you might have noticed, there are a lot of knowledgeable people on here, and it is a great resource for resolving hardware and software  issues.
Have fun.

Alan.

Welcome to the forum!More of a gamer myself. The ins and outs of hardware bores me to tears.

I am very tempted to try out the Blues Brothers AA tape though when I have a sec though. I'm behind on a couple of things I'm meant to do due to a project I'm working on. But sounds like an interesting challenge to be sure. :D

Welcome!
This suggestion may be helpful for some I believe. From my point of view, when I was creating the 2 little text adventures I have made, I found it too difficult to make a little story., as my imagination did not help a lot, especially in the beginning. Team made projects can be more easy if there is good collaboration, as  for a programmer it is difficult to be good at all aspects (story writing, music, programming, drawing graphics).
