Hi everyone,

Do we have an area where we can store Amstrad game image/maps?

I have an almost finished map of the game "Movie" that I would like to share, that's been sitting on my drive for a few years.  The map is similar to the ZX SPECTRUM but has some interesting differences such as extra furniture in some rooms.

I'll reference the original spectrum as I have overlayed our more colourful Amstrad version and cleaned up a few elements.

But remember to post it here too, please  ;)

This will be interesting to see... Movie is a great game for CPC and I always wanted to review it my blog, although I never had time because it is also quite big.

Hi Everyone,

I will note and add credit that An Amstrad map has been created already.

Spectrum version here:

Interestingly when comparing it to the ZX Spectrum our Amstrad version had more items in some rooms (see below)

My original post on blog here:
AMIGAoneX: Amstrad MOVIE game - remake

My version of the map has the sprites/objects added (need to find a way to capture/rip the player and other people)

Update: if I ever did a remake of it would be tempted on keeping the simplistic colouring rather than what I did year ago. Will also add the separate sprites/objects incase other people need them (for remakes ;) )

Finally, on the "movie" map, you delete my little area with my nickname and address of my website (but you rewrite in little, i suppose, the quality of the picture is low) + you add only the sprites  :o
Do you have a better quality for your version ? : http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-072JWQeAoNY/Ve-1JpTdngI/AAAAAAAACj0/n-tanSlFee8/s1600/Movie_Amstrad_MAP_invent.png

I don't see the interest.
(the remake for amiga 2008 is very beautiful)

Better thing is to continue my work and adding new map for completing the collection.

Please, check before on the website for see if a map always exist. On cpcarchives, it's possible to see quickly all map creating with screenshots : http://www.cpc-power.com/cpcarchives/index.php?page=articles&num=143
And a keyword added for see quickly on the database : screenshot map
Actually, i stopped my work on the map : i need to choice with adding new sheets and cleaning tape collection or creating map  ;)

I guess the old hand drawn maps for games is long dead.
Not knocking peoples efforts for pc constructed maps though.
My fave hand drawn versions were for the Dizzy games.
Do people still use pencils and paper for mapping games?

Not me anymore... all the Amstrad maps I made for my blog were done with the PC. I used to draw them when I was a kid (I think I still have the maps of many text-adventure games around) and I also drew some for certain RPGs in Megadrive (Super Hydlide). Nowadays I am not making maps anymore, most of the games include an auto mapper that draws them when you move. This is quite convenient, imagine to draw the map of something like Fallout 3!!!  :D

I liked the Knight Lore map that appeared in Amtix! thats by far my favourite.

The Dizzy maps were cool, can't think of others off the top of my head but there were loads of well drawn maps in the various mags back in the day.

Wow, that Knight Lore map is really serious stuff!  :o

time to sharpen the pencils then   ;D
consider the way games were constructed back in the day, plenty were done by mapping out on paper before getting started.
so when I was a kid it was a copy of AA mag alongside my 464. Now its a tablet pc with my modded 6128!

Looking through the cpc-power website I was observing the craft on & Zunk (get dexter) map.  It is very tempting to relive that game but also screen capture the rooms rather than hand drawn.   While the map like knight lore is very slick I do enjoy seeing the real pixels sometimes.

I'm impressed by some of the artwork people did for some maps like that Knight Lord map but I often had trouble following hand drawn maps and found actual shots of the game much easier when trying to follow them while playing the game.  :)
Favorite CPC games: Count Duckula 3, Oh Mummy Returns, RoboCop Resurrection, Tankbusters Afterlife

Isn't drawing the map supposed to be part of the challenge of a game?

Only if you own very few games, have no source to get new ones and are forced to do it. Or you really like the game!

Even if that was the case, you would only have to draw the map once.
But I rarely play computer games.

TFM

Me neither, it's more fun to make them.  :)
