Hi,
I know you've all already suffered my wittering, but as my 'new' CPC128 is hopefully on the way I thought it time to say 'hello' properly.

A little retro history:
My first computer was a BBC B + FDDs + CUB monitor on loan from my father's work as a result of an argument with the IT crowd. The Beeb was a great system and I really came down with a bump when it was replaced by a ZX81.
Well, after much begging for another Beeb and my father explaining he 'wasn't made of money' he did compromise on an Amstrad - he suggested a 6128 + Green monitor, I got my way with a 464 + Colour monitor. With hindsight he was right; stepping down from FDDs was very frustrating but somehow I developed a real soft spot for the machine even after the cassette deck packed-up and I had to wire an external one in to it...
...had Amstrad stayed in the computer business I may have stuck with them but instead I had many 'happy' years with 32Bit Acorns though I eventually succumbed to the 'evil PC'. Having gotten bored with x86 boxes very quickly I got in to case-modding them (think Ben Heck but not as good) but no matter how hard one tries you really can't polish a turd - retro systems are much more fun.

My collection of 32Bit Acorns, a couple of Amigas, a BBC Master, and a Cobalt Qube are currently my main retro interest but having stumbled across the CPCWiki I found myself longing for things Amstrad. I hope having gotten my hands dirty once more I'll be able to make a contribution...

Sorry, that was rather longer than I intended - I'm not really self-obsessed, honest!
Charlie.

Are you pondering what I'm pondering? The Qube Server

Hi.
Cool story bro. ;)

This is quite symptomatic : the epic choice between a GreenScreen CPC6128 or a Colour CPC464...

The +64K of the 6128 were too rarely used (unless you are an avid coder yourself), but the gain in time to load stuffs is awesome... ???

Disk were a bit expensive though. ::)

As you could spend the lot of time you don't waste to wait the tape to try to crack the games... the Disk price is not a valid argument. ;D

Of course it is quite full of suckness and Fail to have a Greenscreen.
But on the other hand perhaps just to wait a few years and there is a spare TV in the house...

Welcome.

I feel I was quite happy to have a colour CPC6128.

Guday!  :)

We (the family) started with a Green Screen CPC464!  ;D  Solution: I brought a Second-Hand CPC6128 with Colour Monitor when sales for the 16bit Console Market were on the rise!

These days if you want something like that you have to go to eBay!  ???
* Using the old Amstrad Languages :D   * with the Firmware :P
* I also like to problem solve code in BASIC :)   * And type-in Type-Ins! :D

Welcome mate!!! Just in time to relieve a glorious CPC-filled Xmas morning :D

I had to start with a green 464 too. Actuallythe first proper colour monitor I got was... -darn, it was my PC monitor back in '95. Up to then I had to do with SCART (CPC) or composite (ST) cables to satisfy my need for colour... and, since we were talking about that elsewhere, I remember experiencing Purple Saturn Day on the big TV and actually seeing purple instead of more green :D

Once again, welcome mate, hope you enjoy it here!

Welcome to cpcwiki.

I hope you enjoy visiting this forum.

Our first family computer was a BBC micro just like yourself. I then bought a cpc6128 (with help) just for myself. (I did look at c64, spectrum and others, but the cpc seemed to win it for me).

Now I code games for cpc in my spare time :)
