Title: Sprite Designer type-in by Jason Charlesworth - what magazine(s)?
Post by: mr_lou on 21:08, 02 October 15
Does anyone out there know their CPC magazines?

I'm trying to find out which magazine(s) issue(s) contained the listing of "Sprite Designer" by Jason Charlesworth.

I've been browsing through a few of the Danish ones, but figured I might get lucky by just asking here.
I think it was either in a Danish or a German CPC magazine, but I'm not ruling out it existing in other magazines too of course. (I just think it was a Danish or German magazine I saw it in).

I'm also looking for the magazine(s) issue(s) that contained the listing of another sprite editor, this one was just called "Sprites". I don't know who authored it.

Anyone knows their magazines well enough to help me out, or is it a long shot?  :)

Well, I have gone through all of the CPC Schneider magazines that I have, and found sprite designer listings in 3 of them:

CPC Schneider International 12 - Dezember 1985 - page 32: "Sprite BASIC" by Thomas Fippl
CPC Schneider International Sonderheft 1986 - page 61: "Sprite-Editor" by Tobi Krawutschke
PC Scheider International 9 - September 1987 3. Jahrgang - page 81: "SPRITER + Demo" by Pavel Benes

Sadly, none of those 3 are the ones I used back then.
Here is a list of all the magazines I've looked through (i.e. looked at the "Inhalt overview" - not actually looked through all pages):

CPC Schneider International 5 - Mai 1985
CPC Schneider International 6 - Juni 1985
CPC Schneider International 8 - August 1985
CPC Schneider International 10 - Oktober 1985
CPC Schneider International 11 - November 1985
CPC Schneider International 12 - Dezember 1985 - page 32: "Sprite BASIC" by Thomas Fippl
CPC Schneider International 1 - Januar 1986
CPC Schneider International 2 - Februar 1986
CPC Schneider International 3 - März 1986 2. Jahrgang
CPC Schneider International 4 - April 1986 2. Jahrgang
CPC Schneider International 5 - Mai 1986 2. Jahrgang
CPC Schneider International 7 - Juni 1986 2. Jahrgang
CPC Schneider International 8 - August 1986 2. Jahrgang
CPC Schneider International 9 - September 1986 2. Jahrgang
CPC Schneider International 10 - Oktober 1986 2. Jahrgang
CPC Schneider International 11 - November 1986 2. Jahrgang
CPC Schneider International 12 - Dezember 1986 2. Jahrgang
CPC Schneider International Sonderheft 1986 - page 61: "Sprite-Editor" by Tobi Krawutschke
PC Schneider International 2 - Februar 1987 3. Jahrgang
PC Schneider International 3 - März 1987 3. Jahrgang
PC Schneider International 4 - April 1987 3. Jahrgang
PC Schneider International 5 - Mai 1987 3. Jahrgang
PC Schneider International 6 - Juni 1987 3. Jahrgang
PC Schneider International 7 - Juni 1987 3. Jahrgang
PC Schneider International 8 - August 1987 3. Jahrgang
PC Scheider International 9 - September 1987 3. Jahrgang - page 81: "SPRITER + Demo" by Pavel Benes
PC Schneider International 10 - Oktober 1987 3. Jahrgang
PC Schneider International 11 - November 1987 3. Jahrgang
PC Schneider International 12 - Dezember 1987 3. Jahrgang
PC Schneider International 1 - Januar 1988 4. Jahrgang

@TFM (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=179), would you mind looking through the ones I'm missing? As far as I can see that'll be:

CPC Schneider International 7 - 1985
CPC Schneider International 9 - 1985
CPC Schneider International 6 - 1986
PC Schneider International 1 - 1987

You don't need to browse through all of the pages. Just look for anything "sprite" in the content overview.

Thanks!

So you weren't sure if the program was by Jason Charlesworth? CPC-Power only seems to have stuff of his from Your Computer.

Here's a list of German Graphical programs (http://www.cpc-power.com/index.php?page=database&lettre=all&lemot=&year=&compagnie=&cats=302&dumplang=G&xplayx=&titlescreen=&unepictold=&unepictnew=&unefin=&typeins=&astuce=&pokes=&unplan=&soluce=&uncover=&desnotices=&ungoodies=&unepub=&test2=&dskcopy=&dskori=&cassette=&unezic2=&rom=&gx4000=&cpcplus=&patchplus=&lightgun=&unprix=&internautes=&alias=&trainer=&session=&flipbook=&diaporama=&video=&audiotape=&others=&bugs=&virer=&interdit2=&exporter=) which might help.

Couldn't find anything from the Danish.

Thanks a lot!

I found this page subsequently:
Your Computer Magazine : Free Texts : Download & Streaming : Internet Archive (https://archive.org/details/your-computer-magazine?sort=-date)

I guess I know what I'll be doing today then.....

At the moment I don't remember 100% whether or not we typed in the Sprite Designer from Jason Charlesworth. It's possible that we just obtained a copy from someone. But that's why I'm looking for the magazine. Then something might come back to mind. Has happened a million times during the devleopment of 8bit Stories already. It's just crazy how many memories we have stored somewhere way back in the brain. But yes, it was definitely the Sprite Designer by Jason Charlesworth we used at first.

We definitely typed in the other sprite designer though, which I think was just called "Sprites". At least that's what we called it when saving it.

I don't think it was from one of the "Your Computer" issues though but I can't be sure. I think it was either from the danish "Amstrad Bladet" or else one of those German magazines.

It's possible I guess another magazine had a program from Your Computer. "Trap 'em" was published in another magazine, under a different name. It also had an opening Screen.

Noticed you didn't mention this sprite program (http://www.cpc-power.com/index.php?page=detail&num=6607). It was released 10/85 issue of CPC Schneider International, unfortunately CPC-Power doesn't have a Scan for that program (just a Disk Image).

It's not it either though.

Found the one called "Sprites".

It's in the danish magazine Amstrad Bladet.
