6128 - Speaker volume won't go down to minimum

Hi Folks 

The speaker in my 6128 won't really respond when I try and turn it down. It will reduce in volume a bit but not all the way. The speaker itself has some damage, so I guess I should replace that - but that wouldn't be the cause of the volume issue?
