Hi there,

I own two Amstrad 464 plus. Love the machine but sadly there is a flicker on booting them up. Here is a Youtube link to show what its doing.

My discord group do feel its a big fix and probably ram/rom related.

Any ideas?

does it happen to both of them or just one of them?

ROM is unlikely as the screen is properly initialised and two different cartridges having the exact same issue should have a very low probability.

Feels like the monitor - what's it like on an LCD screen? Looks like interference not necessarily related to the computer unit.

Hi,
are you sure the cartridge and cartridge connections are good? I'd start by cleaning the cartridge contacts. Next I'd try swapping the Z80 for a known good one. If neither of those solve the issue, it could be a RAM issue, however... the bad news is, that it's most likely that the ASIC chip has failed, but you won't know for sure until you've ruled out the first three possibilities.

Unfortunately, it's not a monitor issue as Blank Reg suggested.

Bryce.

Have you tried an independent 5V supply rather than the one from the monitor?

I doubt it is worth bothering with this issue.

The original poster has posted the same issue already in 2021 and now in March 2024 - and despite lots of people trying to help in both cases he didn't even bother to log-in again after the post. Can't be so important then...
