I use this since months. I works great with CF cards and you don't need any DOMĀ“s

But why?

I found a site that has the adapters...well from the pictures they look the same.

https://alexnld.com/product/cf-to-2-5-inch-ide-female-adapter/

When mine arrived, they actually look a bit different, but I thought it must just be that it is the latest revision board.

But, I cannot get it to work.
The Xmass board acts the same way it does with no DOM connect.
Blank screen.

I don't suppose there was any mod you had to do to get it working.
I assumed it was plug and play.

Here is the board that I received.

Which CF-Cards do you tested? (e.g. i can not get SanDisk's to work, 2 Hama-Cards works...)

I do have mainly Sandisk cards, but I have a few others that I tried.
None appear to be acknowledged...CPC does not boot.
I purchased a couple of the CF adapters and having no luck with either one.

I was just looking over 'Audronics' pictures from the first post and noticed that his Xmass board (see picture cf5) has a resistor position that is not populated, whereas mine has a resistor in that same position. My Xmass is a rev 1.4 board.

Not sure if that would make any difference, but an observation.

Shane

I assume you have tried Master or slave link ??
I will have a look if I have a working spare CF Card that i could loan you tomorrow.
I think I formatted the card as Fat 16 on a pc and then :-
I formatted the card using the last version of ACMEDOS  xxxxx 8p ??

Hey Ray,

Yes, tried the jumper in both positions.
A question Ray, if you totally remove the DOM/CF and try to boot the CPC, does it just have a blank/black screen (does not boot)?
Is that standard behaviour with no DOM/CF fitted?

Cheers,
Shane

IMHO, if the CPC is not booted, it is not important how you have formatted the Card before (FAT16/FAT32 - ACMEDOS, CUBEIOS, Windows, Linux,...).

In my view, the compatibility is partly incomprehensible, ex. my Transcend CF card works with XMASS and XMEM and NOT with M4-Card and XMASS  :o ! (dont ask me why)

I tested a second Adapter successfull with my CPC 6128:

Thanks for replies.

Yes, I have the Master/Slave jumper in the same position that 'SOS' shows in his picture.
The CF adapter board looks the same as 'SOS' but I notice he is using a short ribbon cable to connect ?

Thanks for clarifying the blank screen with no DOM/CF connected.
So it basically appears my CF's are not being detected.
I have a few different types as per my previous pic...sort of surprising that not one works.
The power light on the CF adapter does come on.

I have a very simple setup.

6128plus
Xmass + Flash Gordan ROM board only.
Only CubeIOS and YANCC/Launcher ROMs.

Cheers,
Shane

Hi Shane

Ok.
I have a CPC6128 (NOT PLUS).
Bernd informed me that to use his software/firmware to remove "" xmass08p.ROM "" after you have formatted the drive.

My Light only Flashes  During startup only for a Millisecond and the goes out,
and flashes if i issue a cat.

I put a Mac formatted cf card in the adapter.
and put " xmass08p.ROM "" in slot 5 and issued " |format "
and it without warning formatted a CF card for me.

Removed the " xmass08p.ROM " and rebooted .
Worked perfectly.

I don't Know the Flash gordon Rom Board ?

Thanks Ray,

The Flash Gordan ROM board is a clone of the Bryce Mega Flash.

I do not have the xmass08p.ROM installed, but I just installed it and removed CubeIOS just for a test.
Same thing...blank screen.

As soon as I put the DOM back in that came with the xmass, it works perfectly with the rest of the setup exactly the same.

Cheers,
Shane

Hi Shane

One Last thing Is the cf card adapter Pin 1 to Pin1 on the x-mass ?

Ok Time for a Personal Message to Bernd (SOS).

As he may not have made allowances for the CP6128+ (Plus)

Good luck     Ray

Hi Ray,

I too had thought about a pin mismatch.
The trouble is, I have not been able to find a pinout for the DOM on the xmass.
I actually don't know what pin 1 is on the DOM/XMASS board.

Seems strange how one would work and another would not, as I assume they are adhering to a CF standard (Talking about the adapters).

The only way to check between the different adapters would be to check connectivity from the CF pins to the connector pin on the adapter.

PS.  With regard to SOS and testing the Plus with CubeIOS, I have been testing with him for a while.  ;)

Cheers,
Shane

Pin 1 Marked here

Update...

Sorry Ray, I just looked at your picture and realised what you were referring to.

You hit the nail on the head I believe.

Looks like my adapter pins are flipped with pin one on the back (I tested with my multimeter).

Here is my picture reference...

Cheers,
Shane

Update:
OK, I was referring to the adapter picture, I did not realise the xmass board had pin 1 marked.
In that case, my adapter actually looks correct.

Yes-No.
Please do not have both ROMS active at one Moment.
For CubeIOS you can Format your CF-Card/DOM how you want (ACMEDOS, FORMAT.BIN from CubeIOS, Windows, MAC, Linux, ....)

Was shipped with my Adapter. My other Adapter has no ribbon cable.
so IMHO it's unimportant

So it basically appears my CF's are not being detected.
I have a few different types as per my previous pic...sort of surprising that not one works.

IMHO you have only 5 CF-Cards
- SanDisk (i think all acts same)
- Kodak
- CF-Team
- STEC
- SiliconDrive (i think all acts same)

I can't remember exactly at the Moment: I have 6 Brands, only three are detected.
Maybe it can be different result, when you remove Flash gordon (1st Test), and (2nd-Test!) only connect M4 with XMASS.
M4 with correct power Setup, please  ;D ;D

As he may not have made allowances for the CP6128+ (Plus)
CubeIOS runs on CPC6128+ , Shane previously reported to me.

With my knowledge:
When the CPC Shows you a blank-Screen and doesn't boot:
It's a hardware-Problem - not a Software, so you can e.g. remove every ROM or burn every ROM you wanted, so
the result would be the same. So no Need on Focus, which ROM's installed, you need to resolve the Black-Screen first.

Shane, you have a good PSU for your MotherX4?!
