Trying to connect an Amstrad FD-1 to a DDI-6 (or equivalent)

I recently picked up a DDI-6 and i believe that i can connect and FD-1 to the disk interface on the DDI-6.  The reason is to make physical copies of software to load from disk

The process should be straight forward i believe 

1.) Remove pin 10 from a 34pin cable
2.) Disconnect the power from inside the FD-1 (i am actually not sure why this is the case but anyway...)
3.) Connect the 34pin cable to the FD-1 and DDI-6

From there its just a case of loading parados and copy from DSK(virtual) to 3" disc (physical)

The issue is that every floppy cable i have has an insertion notch in the middle and on 1 side of the connector.  This would allow me to connect to the DDI-6 but on the FD-1 end the middle notch is replaced by two notches on either side of the connector.  This makes insertion impossible

For those that have done this.  Is it just a case of trimming the notches off? or is there some magic cable i am not aware of to accomplish this task

A standard PC floppy cable should probably work. 

2) is required as the FD-1 injects 5V on some of the GND lanes. The DDI-6 design probably does not reflect this (and I also don't understand why he's doing that).

As I said. Every floppy cable I have will not fit into the FD-1
