Hi,

I have a problem with the motor in the CPC464. the tape slows down sometimes (effect like with an old drive belt) and games don't load.
I'm sure it's the motor because I swapped a working motor from another amstrad and with that motor the mechanism works. I marked the faulty motor in red in the pictures. I have some questions. Is it possible to buy a replacement somewhere ? If not, do you know any motors whose brushes will fit my defective one so that I could swap them ? I have never actually done this but what do I have to lose ? If I replace the brushes, will it be necessary to adjust the speed of the motor ? As you can see in the picture this model does not have a screwdriver hole for this operation. I will be grateful for advice.

These motors have hard brushes, so they don't wear as much. I'd try cleaning the brushes and rotor contacts first and maybe add some grease.

Thank you for your answer.

Are these brushes cleaned with compressed air ?
Do you have to remove them or just open the motor ?
Would liquid silicone grease/oil be good ? Sorry for a lot of questions but I have never done this and do not want to make the systuation worse.

Greetings,

Bryce

Greetings,

I'd just flood the motor with contact cleaner and then manually turn it until the chemical has come back out or evaporated. Only open the motor if necessary, there are too many things that can go wrong if you open it. I'd use a light bicycle oil on the shaft ends if they are accessible.

Bryce.
