Hey everyone,

I'm kinda new here and new to the CPC464. I bought it a couple weeks back and it has been great using the machine! It has worked flawlesly these past weeks untill it suddenly stopped loading a tape halfway through. Right now whenever I insert a tape, the tape deck simply doesn't respond. No play, no rewind,... nothing :o

Anyone had a similair problem like this? I already replaced the belt & checked the grippy bit that lets the whole thing move when play is pressed. But since it doesn't even rewind or play, these werent the problems. Could it be the motor? Or?

Thanks for the help! :D

Cheers,
Sander Ambroos

I tried it again after last night, and it suddenly worked for a bit. I inserted a tape, could rewind it and it started loading when I pressed play. I got a few error code b messages, and after that i got the found harrier attack block 1 thing. It got up to 5 before the tape ran out. Here it stopped and did nothing. When I turned the machine off and on again, I once again couldn't rewind, fast forward or play any tape.

Probably just a dry joint (bad solder joint) somewhere on the tape PCB or the connections to it.

Hey, Thanks for the reply! I added fresh solder to the whole PCB, made sure the connection was ok to the main board and swapped the belts! But still nothing happens when I press rewind, fast forward,... :o I'm at a loss right now. Is there any known component that might cause this issue?

The weird thing is that it suddenly worked again yesterday for like 2min and then broke down again.

There's a leaf-spring switch on the PCB that actuates the motor. Check whether it's correctly positioned and that the contacts are clean.

Also checked that, made sure the cables where properly attached and cleaned it! But still nothing. I'm starting to think that the motor is busted? But I'm not sure how likely that is?

I've never come across that before, but you can always try it out. Just put 4 or 5V across it's contacts and see if it turns. Disconnect the connector to the CPC first, then it won't matter which way around you connect the positive and negative wires.

I'll try to check tomorrow! Thanks!

It looks like the motor is actually dead! I'm gonna order a new one and hope that fixes everything! Thanks for the help 😁

I installed a new motor! One from a C64 datasette that was broken. It's a bit larger but it fitted and it works again! :D Had to bend the leaf-spring switch a bit tho since it got bend over time and the play button still didn't work initially because it was bend a bit to far back.
