Title: Faulty RAM

Hello,


This is an easy one, but I have no idea how to solve it.
When playing with my old AMSTRAD it suddenly froze. The have stopped responding and image flickered, the keyboard became useless.
After rebooting all I got was a pink chessboard pattern and a continuous noise.


After reading some posts I would say that the problem is a RAM, but I have no idea how to know which one.


Any method or technique to solve this problem?

if it is the ram you can check it with a Dandanator (which has a built in RAM test), this video (https://youtu.be/uv_l1rjtPUQ) should give you some ideas as I just went through the same process on a CPC 664

Thanks for the video link, that's what I need but I guess it's cheaper to replace all rams than the dandanator itself.

the dandanator cost me approx 29 euros plus shipping, so it wasn't expensive, the ram cost me...about 17 euros inc postage (i think), but you can shop around on ebay, if you do replace the ram make sure to also socket it so that when it fails again it'll be easier to replace, as in very easy to replace

I am looking for the RAM but I cannot find the exact numbers M5K4164ANP 84260G 15. It seems to be lost of M5K4164ANP tough. I guess any M5K4164ANP will do, right?

This is the manufacturer = M5K (so this bit may vary)
This is the actual part name = 4164 (the bit that matters)
This is the version, type of housing and packaging = ANP (rarely matters as long as the chip is physically the right type)
This is the year and location it was made = 84260G (26th week of 1984)
This is the speed of the RAM = 15 (150nS)

All you really care about is the 4164, the rest is mostly irrelevant.
