Sorry for the noob question, and yes it has been discussed a lot before but I'm confusing myself :-X

I want to transfer a BASIC program from 3" disk to PC with the optimum combo of time taken to sort out/expense/hassle, what's my best option -

* Type out the BASIC listing manually on the PC in an emulator (what I'm trying to avoid)
* Read the .bas file from the 3" disc direct into the PC via some sort of hardware
* Read the .bas file into the CPC memory and dump the memory into the PC via some sort of hardware
* Read the .bas file into the CPC memory and write a quick program to OUT it to the expansion port and ...

erm...

Thanks

A device such as the USIFAC II will write to a USB flash drive or direct to a PC.

@dthrone : Which kind of hardware do you have on CPC side? (Floppy-Emulator? 3,5" Floppy etc... please tell, this can lead a way).

Meanwhile I would say you can save the BASIC program with SAVE"PRG",a as ASCII file and transfer the ASCII file to PC. There you can use the autotype function of some emulators (like WinCPC and others).

Thanks for the replies :)   On the cpc side it is the built in 3" drive on my 6128+.

eto

I use either a GOTEK or a USIFAC.

I write to the USB Stick and then take the USB Stick to the PC and copy over either the DSK image (Gotek) or the files directly (Usifac).

with usifac you can have the PC hooked up directly to the CPC via serial cable (or wifi)... and load the files into the CPC..CPC can see just about every folder on ya PC... so its like a big ass hard drive...

really nice for coding as ya can just access it from the CPC as youre coding (save first!)..no need to save copy it to usb then move the usb from the PC to CPC...just pull it directly from the PC...

there are also tools that allow you to actually transfer the files from PC to floppy on the CPC so you can save to the correct medium for later use...

Well, the internal 3" drive is great, but sadly not supported by Windows PCs, so what can be done (aside of the previously described alternatives)?
- Floppy Emulator with SD card (HxC) or Gotek (with USB stick)
- USIfAC I or II for serial transfer to PC
- MiniBooster, also serial transfer to PC using USB plug at PC side
- Use a 3,5" floppy and CPC and PC side
- Source the whole thing out to some far away place and let them type it in for you ;-)

Have a great week all together.  :)

Thanks everyone :D

This weekend I got hold of my original 6128+ and discs so I want to upload some BASIC progs for preservations sake.  Sounds like I need to make a decision on picking up some hardware but in the meantime I've typed up the first one the old school way ;D

I can also report that the 6128+ and discs are working ok after being in storage  for 15 years or so - woo!
