PCW 8xxx volume Potentiometer

Hi folks,
Been getting irritated by the volume of the beeper on my 8256.
It's so loud. Why anyone would code games to use it is beyond me.


Anyway, I thought that if it was a bit quieter it might be ok.
Is using a Potentiometer a viable solution. If so, how would I go about working out which power rating i'd need?


I'm thinking I might try make something that can go next to the brightness dial, then 3d print the large dial to make it look almost original.
