Hi,

Managed to try out the OSSC and the Rocket capture device on Sunday - no joy with that - the Rocket flashes blue indicating no video source but connecting the OSSC to a TV (with a few niggles) worked fine.

From the manual:
"By default the OSSC takes in one scanline and outputs two, resulting in a lag free conversion of 240p to 480p. Line triple mode (Line3x) attempts to triple each scanline instead. OSSC now offers a line quadruple and quintuple mode too (hereafter referred to as Line4x and Line5x respectively). These modes can result in a very sharp image on compatible displays. Unfortunately, not every display is compatible."

Could increasing the scanline output help with the Rocket problem?

The niggles:

1. The default colour scheme for the Desktop Environment System (white border, white background with black text/icons) results in a loss of sync (and therefore picture) every time - this caused some head scratching here as initially I was left with a black screen on the TV and assumed that there was an incompatibility of some kind. However DES has 3 other colour options available at boot-up and these all worked OK.

2. Sync/picture is lost for two/three seconds when loading or saving to disc - not a major issue.

Aside from the above I can confirm that the picture quality is excellent - text/graphics are sharply defined and no shadows were visible.

I tested the OSSC with the mode 2 programs DES, CPM on Rom, Rom Protext, Nirvana Rom, DosCopy on Rom and MicroDesign Plus. Also tested were The Sentinel and Defend or Die games. With the exception of the DES issue all programs were displayed correctly.

Some pictures (please note that the out of focus pics are due to my shoddy camera work NOT the OSSC):

Thanks for the link Poliander,

When I am next back in Glasgow I will try this out :)

Cheers,

Peter
