Any recommendations for outputting to a monitor with HDMI or VGA (464 & 6128)

Hi Everyone,


As the subject says really. What are the best methods to output the 464 and 6128 to a modern monitor with VGA or HDMI and get a sharp image? Also, are there any pitfalls I need to be aware of?


Links to any specific hardware/connectors would be appreciated.

I am using a GBS 8200 (https://www.octoate.de/articles/connect-cpc-to-vga-display/) with GBSControl mod (https://github.com/ramapcsx2/gbs-control).

It's a bit of soldering but relatively simple. The GBS solution is very cheap compared to most other scalers and with the GBSControl mod it's very powerful.

If you are into other retro RGB stuff, OSSC is worth the investment. And if you combine it with transcoder, Koryuu for example, then you can connect composite and s-video through it, and it will perform close to RetroTink 5x (see below). Benefit of OSSC is that it is a lag free solution, because it is not a scaler, but line multiplier, so it doesn't have framebuffer.

I use OSSC nowadays mostly just connecting Dreamcast and OG Xbox to SVGA CRT monitor (For example Dreamcast --> OSSC --> HDMI OUT --> HDMI-VGA adapter --> VGA KVM --> Monitor), because I have CTM644 as well as CRT TV and Sony PVM, so I rarely connect my vintage devices to flat screen anymore.
Much simpler and cheaper (and less versatile compared to OSSC) option would probably be RetroTink, but I have no personal experience about this product (they are top quality still)

RetroTink 5X is another option and it pretty much does the same thing as OSSC with Koryuu, but it is also better de-interlacer. However, it seems to be constantly out of stock and is by far the most expensive option and compares to both price and features more to a FrameMeister
