Looks good, any gx4000 are good and helps to make up for the disappointment 30 years ago when virtually no games were released for it.

What's going on with collision detection and bring able to walk straight through enemies?

XeNoMoRPH

maybe the author was testing the mapping, that's why he disabled the contact with the enemies.

Wow, looks great. Lovely to see new GX software.  :)

Yup, only takes a second to realise it!

Looks great, although the jump seems very very fast and hard to avoid enemies.

Interesting! I am curious to see how the hi-res h/w sprites will blend with the low-res scenery. And hopefully enemy sprites will receive a h/w lifting too as the development progresses.

However! The scenery seems to use the C64 palette and colour limitations, so I am not sure I understand the 'looks great' comments by people in this forum... I was under the impression that the C64 palette is washed-out, looks shitty-brown etc etc..?

Then again, perhaps I just don't understand modern politics very well. ;D

Great news! :D I owned Blinky's Scary School for the Spectrum when I was about 10 years old. I remember it being really colourful and I played it a lot, but I only ever managed to complete the first part once. (As you can guess, I wasn't a very good player.)

This GX4000 version looks really nice - although the impression I get from watching the YouTube video is that it looks too much like a C64 game (look at the greys and browns of the walls).

in the last video Amstariga ( author, speaks about ), translated from french.

QuoteYes, it's the c64 palette and I used the same backgrounds as the c64 version, on the other hand I took the Atari ST sprites for the character and the items. On the other hand, the palette and the sets are planned to be completely redone for something that looks like the CPC and what the GX4000 can offer ..

Great to hear the graphics might also get re-done. It was the smoothness I thought looked great and I wouldn't criticise a programmer who's have a stab at recreating an existing game from just cribbing graphics from the C64, even if the GX can do better. After all the programmers amongst us aren't always great at the art stuff.

Cwiiis

The collision and physics are exactly how the game works on other platforms (you can play this on Atari 8-bit, for example), so I doubt it'll change - really great to see though, this definitely outclasses the Atari 8-bit version, even without redrawing the enemy sprites :)

zisquier

Hello guys :)

Well Blinky's Scary School is finised at this time. I red your comments, and like it was quoted by Xenomorph, background gfx are from C64 (pallete too) and items and Blinky's sprits from Atari ST version.
I won't change anything about gfx because I am very bad at that lol
I get bored with this game I started 3 years ago when I started learning Assembly, and now I'm really really bored with it :/
So it will be relase with many visual imperfections and I'm so impatient to learn other things and turn the page quickly :)

(the games I do or did (like La Culotte de Zelda) are only done for my assembly learning, and I'm not a real coder, so you will see many amateurish imperfections)

If people want to change gfx ... they can. I can give DSK files with tiles and screen inside and the whole map did with Tiled software.

Oh, that's amazing! On the graphics side of the CPC, this might even be the most interesting thing ever happening. I really hope people will pick up the challenge.

We'll be play testing Blinky's Scary School for the first time live tonight on the Amstream if anyone wants to see it in action :)  Zisquier has very kindly given us a copy to do so.

Stream starts at 9pm UK time, so 10pm in France/Spain. Game will probably start 20-30mins into the stream after saying hello to everyone etc.

Not every game is better with scrolling. Depends on the level design.

Or: you can see every screen as it's own mini-level. It would be totally different if it would scroll.

What a good idea! The very good Titanic Blinky shows its prequel finally arriving on an Amstrad machine 8)

I'm a little bit puzzled by the HUD using mode 1 in 4 colours but it all looks really nice and really smooth thanks to the magic of hard sprites. Graphics were so adorable on Amiga at the time. It will be a pleasure to discover it on GX-4000  ;)

If it wasn't for the sound it could pass as a 16-bit game...

Please keep in mind, that the Atari ST is equipped with the same soundchip like our sweet CPC.
So it really can pass as a 16bit-Game!
