I'm of the opposite opinion. I think if a head start for 128k games was made, more people might think of the DIY approach to adding the RAM in.

It's a double edged sword, No point in making 128k versions due to not enough machines, but no desire to upgrade the GX due to not enough games.

It will be better to patch the 128K games to use 64K ROM, instead of patching the GX4000.

I'm of the opposite opinion. I think if a head start for 128k games was made, more people might think of the DIY approach to adding the RAM in.

It's a double edged sword, No point in making 128k versions due to not enough machines, but no desire to upgrade the GX due to not enough games.
It's honestly quite awkward to use 128K and the Plus hardware together and rarely likely to be a benefit at all if you're running from cartridge as you rarely need quite that much volatile storage.

Really the only reason to put 128K in a GX is to allow quick ports of old school 128 games.

Sadly, it's the biggest problem. Of course it would be better to adapt 128k games themselves to cartridge storage and use it to solve the RAM issue rather than searching to add 128k on a console wittingly designed with 64K. It's even obvious to be honest. And being able to create easily CPR containing more than a single side of a floppy disk to be able to patch games originally stored on 2 sides would be great too. The problem is to find someone that know how to make this kind of patch and most of all that is motivated to spend time adapting games like Double Dragon (the good one) or Prohibition (the 128k version including all features) on GX4000  :-[

But there are still so many games to convert,  running natively with 64k only and taking less than 178k... life is good  ;D

If I had the time, I'd love to take SkoolKit from the Speccy scene and adapt it to CPC, so producing full disassemblies of games would be easier. As with re-buildable source code, producing proper Plus enhanced cart versions would be substantially easier. But time is always the biggest issue.

Sadly Nocart has big restrictions concerning the DSK files it can convert to CPR. But yes, maybe there are some kb to add to convert one or two more games with this issue  ;)

Hi everyboy, thanks to @Urusergi we can continue with Jean-Philippe Biscay's very French games 8) , this time:

CHARLY DIAMS from Loriciels

Controls:
J1 LEFT/RIGHT = Run or swim left/right
J1 UP = Jump left / swim up (you can't jump while wearing your swimsuit)
J1 DOWN = Jump right / swim down (you can't jump while wearing your swimsuit)
J1B1 = Start game / pick up a flower / drink water / change outfit / dig to find the treasure when all dots are flashing on flowers.
J1B2 = Quit rolling demo / Music on/off while playing

A naive game that resonates in the heart of many French players through this lovable tribute from Jean-Philippe Biscay to his son, Charly, then only 2 years old.

List of the modifications for the GX4000:
      - Keys patched for joypad
      - Poke for unlimited energy

Hello everybody, we suggest you to continue with our excursion deep in the French videogame world of the 80s which offered us sometimes obscure but always surprising concepts :laugh: . So thanks to the magical fingers of @Urusergi , here is:

DESPOTIK DESIGN from ERE Informatique

Controls
--------
Language selector :
J1 LEFT = French
J1B1 = English
J1 RIGHT = German

Main screen :
J1B1/J1B2 = Start game

Ingame:
J1 LEFT/RIGHT = Turn left/right
J1 UP = Move forward
J1 DOWN = Move back / pull objects
J1B1 = Fire
J1B2 = Put in place or take back the magnetic key
Pause button = Pause/resume game


Just the plot of the game reminds that it comes from the tormented mind of the most crazy French guys at the time, Philippe Ulrich and his team.

For this conversion, we had to remove the directional control mode that would need a 3 button joypad, but the game remains really enjoyable using the standard control mode that it is supposed to be the default control mode anyway.

You have two versions, one with the original splashcreen and its... ahem... strange colours  ;D and another one offering another colour palette that we think it's better (found on a cracked version to be honest). No pokes this time, you will have to be clever to thwart the unscrupulous pirate's plan to corrupt all life forms  8)

Once again, we hope that the instructions also included in the archive will explain better the aim and rules of the game than the original texts from ERE Informatique, sometimes hard to understand  :laugh:

Modifications for the GX4000

    - Two versions : Original grey or alternative black titlescreen
    - Wait for fire to skip title screen
    - Patch language selection screen on joypad
    - Removed directional control mode that would have required a 3-button joypad
    - patch standard control mode on joypad

Hope you'll want to (re)discover this hard but so nice isometrical puzzle-action game  ;)

And another ERE Informatique obscure game we hope that will now be clearer with full joypad gameplay thanks to @Urusergi and with new instructions :

ROBBBOT from ERE Informatique

Controls:
J1 UP/DOWN = Make a robot take off or land / Choose between exploration or control mode
J1 LEFT/RIGHT = Move a robot left or right / Choose a robot to control while navigating in the panel
J1B1 = Enter or exit panel / fire to destroy steel-eater gluttons when a robot is flying.
J1B2 = Manually release the robot SAM just fixed.
Pause button = Abort current game

Modifications for the GX4000:
    - Wait for fire to skip title screen
    - Patch language selection screen on joypad
    - patch keys
    - Trainer

Multilanguage version but also Spanish version of the game have been patched (with a freshly cracked version from @Urusergi ). Infinite energy (fusiogen) is also available for each version, but beware as it wouldn't prevent you to crash on another robot or danger ;) .

Hope this new realease of ROBBBOT (yes, with 3 "B", you will understand) will make you want to try this nice little game  ;D

Love that Missile Command is joining Pac-Man, Scramble and Frogger on the GX4000 for legendary early arcade games.

Would love to see Moon Patrol on it as well. :D
Currently playing on: 2xCPC464, 1xCPC6128, 1x464Plus, 1x6128Plus, 2xGX4000. M4 board, ZMem 1MB and still forever playing Bruce Lee.
No cheats, snapshots or emulation. I play my games as they're intended to be played. What about you?

Couldn't agree more. Also Super Cobra. That would be a dream come true. And Spelunker (from Atari and C64 fame).

It was good for it's time in 85. But it's pretty ghastly to look at and I found the controls a bit clunky.

A bit slow sadly, compared to its famous model. Atari 800 and C64 conversions of Moon Patrol show what we could expect even in 1985. And when we see the official Spectrum conversion, we can suppose that we would not have had much better than Moon Buggy on CPC  :D

Sure, if you consider that we have Relentless and Scramble.
But back then I loved this in the arcades and that's what I had at home.
A new version would be great indeed.
