Seen a few people on my Twitter feed (probably encouraged by me) buying CPC's lately so I decided to write a buyers guide. Be warned, it is partly an opinion piece rather than a straightforward guide as I think as a CPC owner of nearly 30 years I get to have an opinion! 


Amstrad CPC - A Buyers Guide


The site as a whole is incomplete but writing a buyers guide is something I really wanted to get off my chest. I'm sure there will be suggestions (good or bad).


With time I will improve the layout etc and add more pictures but the rest of the site needs attention first. At the moment all it does is scrape the videos in from Youtube!

I would also suggest that you mention that the Plus range use an ASIC that is more or less irreplaceable, so it's best to buy one that you know is fully working. With the Classic CPC this isn't as big a problem, because there are spares available for 99% of the machine.

464 Plus - New model of the original 464. Does have the ability to connect to a disc drive without extra hardware unlike the original 464.

You can add this to the monitor part: Take a crt monitor means you can use the amstrad cpc light guns. Use it with scart cable in lcd not.

Is there a link? I can't see it.


I know people will want to add lots of stuff but remember the audience is the casual user who is interested in buying the computer they had as a kid. Not technically savvy people who want to add rom boxes etc.


We are the hardcore here. The average user isn't going to mod their computer. They just want to fling in a tape and play Harrier Attack.

I thought this guide was excellent - I'm what you would call a 'casual' - only recently want to get hold of a CPC and found it a great point of reference.
