Not a bad port for the CPC at all. Although I remember when I had this on floppy, sometimes it would crash upon loading. Never worked out of it was a bug or my disc!

We could have ended up with that MSX Speccy port but no, it's not bad.

There's also an X68000 port, developed by Dempa (who also did that Megadrive port), which runs very nicely, outside of having a seemingly smaller display area.
Runs great in MAME if you want to try it out. ;)

I played this one like crazy in Amstrad and, much later, in my Sega 32X. I always thought that the 32X version was as good as the arcade, to be honest, or at least it seemed to me like that  :D

32X is indeed supposed to be a good version.

In reality, the difference was basically the framerate. As far as I remember, the 32X version was at 30 fps and with slightly lower resolution than the arcade machine. This was noticeable, but not so much. Playing the game in a big fat Trinitron TV was a complete blast  :D

3 dislikes so far on that YouTube video, I wonder if they all are C64 users

I get two instant dislikes without fail every week, then the third always pops up after I post on here if its a CPC video. Hilariously what they don't realise is that Youtube algorithms like a bit of controversy so promote the video *more* if if you have a reasonable ratio of down votes. So actually it helps!

So it matters not and always gives me a good laugh at the idea that people think I'm sitting here weeping. It's actually hilarious!

Kind of kit I would like to own but it's probably not worth it for the channel. So few titles.

I was one of those that bought it when it appeared in the market  :) As you say, really few games but some great great titles (considering that I did not have a PC at the moment). I enjoyed Doom a lot (despite its frame), Virtua Racing (although it was not like the arcade), Mortal Kombat II, Stellar Assault, Afterburner, Space Harrier... all super nice.

The 32X is a bit like the CPC Plus. Take a piece of ageing hardware, pep it up a bit but not enough to fight off the inevitable. Except with the Plus we all had to get new machines whereas the 32X was an add on.

Yes... actually, the reason I "bought" it was simple: I was 14 and my parents completely refused to buy me a Saturn or a PSX, not to mention a computer. However, they were much more tolerant with the addons. Things like that, I had nothing to lose buying it for Christmas (besides my parent´s money). I was lucky, though, somehow, there was a magazine called Mega Sega that offered a HUGE discount if you were going to buy it from a particular supermarket (almost 50% of the original price). This allowed me to buy it with two games: Doom and Virtua Racing  :) . I only played with it for one year, before I got a PC, but what a year was that one  :D The funny thing is that, since I also had a Mega CD, the whole system looked like a proper abortion.

How many of you would have bought a £99 plus addon for your CPC in 1990? I would...

Always found the game kinda shallow even in the arcades.  All speed but not much lasting fun (i feel the same way about Sega's other even more famous speedy game Sonic the Hedgehog).  CPC port was well done and worth a play in quick blasts though.

I was about 10 or 11 depending on the month.  £99 was an unthinkably huge amount of money for me.   I only got £5 a month pocket money.
Favorite CPC games: Count Duckula 3, Oh Mummy Returns, RoboCop Resurrection, Tankbusters Afterlife

If it had come out in time for Christmas, I think a lot of parents would have thought "that's cheaper than that A500 they want".

But it would have had limited functionality - sure, it could have added a blitter, and provided a faster CPU for calculations, but it wouldn't have added colours, sprites, and so on (well, maybe if the video output was routed through the expansion, it could have, with the CPC screen being an overlay/underlay - a bit like the Spectrum Next's 256-colour mode). Keeping the cost to £99 would have been the problem, once you've stuck in memory, faster CPU, custom silicon, and so on.

Well... I can only say that I tried to convince my parents with the Amiga thing for many years and it was absolutely impossible to get one. However, the consoles were cheaper... and that worked. My parents back in those days were considering the price of the system only, not the price of the games, and Megadrive/Mega CD titles were not particularly cheap. I had some friends in the 90s that managed to literally obtain all the available software for the Amigas just for free... the computer would have been single time inversion. I reckon that the massive amount of piracy did not help the system at all, but I was not even considering that when I was 11 and having pirate games was very cool in the city  :) (cool according to our own standards, of course, for the rest of people we were just a bunch of weirdos).

I wouldn't have bought a £99 add-on for my CPC because I was mostly dirt poor (what's pocket money? I never saw any) but maybe I could have convinced my parents to get me it as a Christmas present. Couldn't have done that with a Plus however, since it was basically the same computer I already had.

To help you out I'll dislike all of your videos from now on.
No need to thank me or should I be apologising for liking your previous videos?

As for the 32x I love mine, mostly thanks to the everdrive so I don't have to buy the games of fleabay, but wish the homebrew scene would make some games for it.
