I completed Gauntlet and Deeper Dungeons expansion pack games, but never played Gauntlet 2. I do remember being utterly disapointed by Gauntlet 3 however. Time to grab the Gauntlet 2 DSK and play the weekend away I thinks

:)

Yeah! And yes, 3 was .... terrible... lousy speccy port!

Especially with Gauntlet 2, its really quite impressive how much is going on and how fast and responsive the game is. The programmers did a great job.

So true. For Gauntlet 3 it wouldn't be so hard to make it fair:
- Use all four colors of Mode 1 instead of only two
- Use hardware scrolling (split screen) instead of software scrolling (5x faster)
- Add CPC specific screen routines

#cough# and make it a network multiplayer Diablo game...#cough##cough#

;D

seriously concerning Gauntlet 3 :

classic lazy speccy port...
Can get the sprite in 3 colours + transparency with same Data amount, just another routine... otherwise, more RAM could give backgrounds in 4 colours as well.
Oh wait, it already uses 128K as it was a speccy128 port...

but yeah, had it looked like Head over heel instead of MoleculeMan, it could have been a real CPC hit.

Sorry for bringing up an old thread, but I've just converted the patched " Gauntlets " to hfe format for my HxC.

The game were patched by @Urusergi (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=923) for the GX4000 conversions.

The patched games let you use both the Joypads with Fire Button 2 being used for magic.

- D & F moved to Z & X (beceause F & Joy2 B2 are the same key)
- P is pause or cheat mode

I'm happy to say the games appear to work great on the original cpc with the following adaptor

AMSTRAD CPC 464 / 664 / 6128 TWO 2 X JOYSTICK / GAME PORT Y ADAPTER CABLE | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AMSTRAD-CPC-464-664-6128-TWO-2-X-JOYSTICK-GAME-PORT-Y-ADAPTER-CABLE-/121946169501?hash=item1c648ee09d:g:2gAAAMXQhuVRXVB4)

I've uploaded the disks including hfe format here, incase you want to play these great games on your original cpc with the adaptor and a couple of joypads.  :D
