sigh

Nice review as usual. I also enjoyed the Darkman film, though I have never watched the sequels.

I've never actually played this game but it looks very Batmanesque on the multi directional scrolling levels.

Thanks sigh! The sequels weren't much to write home about, but they weren't awful.

I'm always surprised how Ocean in their later years supporting the Amstrad managed to get smooth scrolling like here and especially in Batman The Movie. I wonder what fps it's running at? 25? 16?

I actually prefer this game over Batman the Movie (cos I always disliked the grappling hook  in Batman) and the graphics are nicely done.  Particularly love the colours used in level 6(?) with the purple bricks and red girders and grey ladders/pipes and stuff.
Favorite CPC games: Count Duckula 3, Oh Mummy Returns, RoboCop Resurrection, Tankbusters Afterlife

Reminds me of some of your work ^^, Darkman .
I am bemused as to why this game has had so much attention to detail  and yes it was a big hype film, but look at Running Man probably a bigger film , and that got a pathetic game given to it , no effort whatsoever .
Darkman probably had as much work done on it as Robocop, and Batman .
I think it is a great game , but I never gave it a proper go really cos I found the first level just so banal . And It gave the impression the rest of the game was on that level.

Nice review! I enjoyed this game a lot when I was a kid and I still have the box, the disc and everything, in Spain. After watching the video I am very glad to see that it is actually a really nice game and not only my memory sweetening things  :D

If only Ocean, rather than Grandslam, had done The Running Man.  Ocean did Total Recall & Terminator 2 are both well done games based on Arnie movies and show some actual effort in creating quality CPC software.

That first level is a bit strange and basic  and doesn't do the rest of the game justice at all other than nice graphics.

Ah yes, forgot about that one.   It's older than many of their other movie game successes though so maybe hadn't hit therir stride yet or hired the right employees.

Trying to think of all the good Ocean movie games.  Obviously Darkman here, Terminator 2, Total Recall, Batman The Movie, RoboCop, The Untouchables, The Addams Family, Nightbreed, Rambo III, Hudson Hawk and maybe Short Circuit  And people always complained movie-based games suck, yet there you have a nice variety of well made movie games from just one publisher in the 8-bit era.

Yeah some proper effort from Ocean ,
Terminator 2,not keen on, although there are some decent levels mixed in
Total Recall, really like this game
Batman, Great game
Robocop, Great game
The Untouchables, Not a bad game , despite a few moments where it is a little over ambitious. Good effort though
Nightbreed, Nice game , but not everyones cup of tea
Rambo 3, I like and has plenty of effort and variety
Hudson Hawk , Enjoyable ,flawed but plent of effort
Short Circuit, Well Presented , but not everyones cup of tea
Addams Family, Wow quality game but tough, reminds me of Console games.
Ocean probably one of the most respectful developers for the Amstrad.

EgoTrip

The first part of Short Circuit was great. Wasn't keen on the second part though.

At least the second part was better than the Speccy's

I'm glad you noticed this too. I thought that was really good too, in fact I used a screen shot of it in the thumbnail image for YouTube.

Red Heat wasn't done in-house. It was done by Jim Bagley at Special FX who Ocean used from time to time. They also did Midnight Resistance, Cabal, Hudson Hawk (another movie licence there!) and maybe one or two others.

I didn't cheat.

And yea, I know you've asked me to do SNRs for CPC Power, I may do but I record these videos using recording tools - not SNR. And I have very little time these days to do both :(

Scarlettkitten

I need to find a copy of this now, it looks pretty good. :) great video. x
