Review and longplay of PacLand on the Amstrad CPC! One of the earliest scrolling platform games in the arcades gets a conversion 5 years later... games had moved on a lot by then so how does this play? Based on the short lived cartoon series, Pac Man comes alive in a silly story of rescuing fairies! 8bit war video.
Strangely the speccy versions seems to be CPC ported, as you can see some letter characters are in "mode0"... :o
quite strange...
Needless to say the C64 version features a proper scrolling so easily wins the contest.
That's perhaps the main critic to do on the CPC version : it lacks a proper Scrolling, but also it could have used some bits of extra animation for some sprites.
And finally it seems to slowdown a little bit.
But on the other hand the sounds are good and the graphics are quite accurate compared to the arcade.
It pulls out a decent Mario-Like feeling.
Yea it could have been quite a decent little simple fun platformer, but it's ruined by the flick screen scrolling, shame :(
I always hated this game. I found it to be kids stuff, like a coloring book or something.
Why do the 8-bit Wars vids have Dizzy as a Spectrum character? Doesn't make sense! :)

The guy is a speccy fanboy. ::)
He can't see colours.
Xyphoe, I'd love the following from you:
A list of all the videos you've done, so I could select which ones I'd like on a DVD-collection. Then you'd make me a DVD ISO with a menu for me to select which long-play video I wanted to watch. Perfect when being stuck in bed with the flu or something.
Gimme the list and name your price. :)

Well, couldn't be easier than http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=Xyphoe#grid/uploads (http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=Xyphoe#grid/uploads) . Then download them vids (maybe through JDownloader, it's very nice and automagic) and use ConvertXToDVD to convert them...
I used to love this game in the arcades!
I could never find the CPC version of it in any shops in Ireland though, it wasn't until 1995 when a certain someone from this very forum (you know who you are!) sent this to me on a disk close to Christmas. Loved clicking around on it until i got to round 3, and couldn't for the life of me work out the springboards.
In the arcades, it was a case of jump and keep tapping right, but it didn't work on the CPC version.
Thanks to this video, I finally got there. Will have fun with this one now. :)
