[AMSTRAD CPC] Renegade - Longplay & Review
19 July 2011, 3:17 pm

Renegade - the classic arcade beat-em-up conversion to the Amstrad CPC - review and longplay. I'll be taking a look at the Renegade trilogy this week on the Amstrad, first up is the official home conversion and what a fantastic and faithful job they've done! Great fun for a quick blast! The Amstrad (and Spectrum) version actually uses the same buttons as the arcade original (left attack, jump, right attack) too - it makes it a little awkward to play but brownie points in my book for trying to be as faithful as possible and IMHO it works fine. I forget to mention the speed of the sprites moving around the screen in the commentary! Great stuff! Known as "Nekketsu Kōha Kunio-kun" in Japan (it had you fighting school bullies and a lot less 'violent' and 'gritty') but re-sknned and re-titled for release in the West. The poke and keypress to turn on the 'blood' you can find on the CPC Power link below.

Just what I needed after a shite day of work, thanks Xyphoe!

Oh the pain of the Big Bertha level back in the day  :D

sigh

The spectrum 128k version has the throw move >:( :

ZX Renegade - Overhead Throw (128k only!)

On the arcade you could also jump off the wall and do the flykick.

Damn!!

Well wow that makes the game look really easy there!

I've tested the Amstrad version again - it's definitely loading the 128k version (loads all the levels at once) but no throw move :(

It also features awesome 1bpp graphics with full colourclashes extra features ON... definitly a plus.
;D

Anyway, always saddening to see the only 128K extra feature on CPC is "1 load only"... As usual...
It could have used more extra moves and sprites...

I mean... my 6128 have a fast disk drive, I simply don't care if there are multiple loadings.
