With modification to the 8256 PCB and it's printer, is there a way to run the 8256 without the printer physically attached?

Is it possible to transplant the printer controller chip into the 8256? It's done with later models, so how much work would it be for 8256?

Has it been done before?

I'm not sure if I understand you right.

You don't need to have a printer attached to run any PCW as far as I know.

Even more, with the PCW-IO board by Habi you can use a loose PCW board fully.

I thought that on the 8256 the printer must be connected because the cpu in the printer gives the pcw the boot sequence?

It's actually the printer controller chip on the PCW motherboard the one that contains the boot sequence, not the printer.

That was a way to reduce component count and thus, price.
